I think a lot of you just landed here for bugs, so here are a few photos of bugs from my yard in Seattle as a welcome gift. #Invertebrates
a brown grasshopper face peaking over the top of the central part of a cone flower with yellow petals in the background
a yellow crab spider with uber long front legs looking like it's going to give you a hug, on the side of the central part of a cone flower
a syrphid fly, mimicking a bee with a yellow and black body, perched on the yellow center of a white daisy
a shiny green sweat bee foraging on the pollen on a bright yellow cone flower

It’s Fritillary time in Saskatchewan! Pretty sure this is an Arctic Fritillary #invertebrates
Orange butterfly with black markings on its wings is posing with wings spread on an aster bloom which is almost completely obscured by the wings. It’s surrounded by grass finds and soft focus green.

I feel like everyone needs a cute little orange sea bunny nudibranch today. #Invertebrates
a photo of a fluffy looking, round, very orange sea slug nudibranch with lacy little rhinophores like antennae and a circle of butt gills. this is the little red dorid, rostanga pulchra

Once upon a time I just admired nudis and sea slugs. But it was not enough. Now apparently I'm creating an R package to celebrate their colour palettes? 😅 First up, my Sydney fave, Hypselodoris bennetti. #rstats #nudibranch #dataviz 🦑🐙🧪 #marinelife #invertebrates
Close up with a beautiful nudibranch on a rocky reef. The lower half of the image is a palette of swatches made from the nudi's vibrant colours.

A freshly-molted Zammara smaragdina cicada in the forest last night at my house. These were plentiful a few months ago when it was warmer, and I was kind of surprised to see one now. #costarica #bugsky #invertebrates #cicadas 🌿
A dazzling insect clings delicately to a vibrant green leaf, its translucent wings resembling finely crafted stained glass. The wings shimmer with hues of aqua and emerald, crisscrossed by intricate, vein-like patterns outlined in silvery white. Its luminous green body glows with an almost metallic sheen, highlighted by subtle flecks of gold. Two prominent, jet-black eyes glisten under the light, adding a sense of mystery to its elegant form. Behind it, the blurred background of foliage creates a natural frame, accentuating this delicate yet otherworldly moment in the heart of the rainforest.
