Jharkhand exam row: Hunger strike, Assembly uproar and political sparring mark day of high drama (Lead)
Ranchi/New Delhi, Aug 7 (SocialNews.XYZ) The political and administrative pressure on the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM)-Congress government in Jharkhand intensified on Friday as the statewide agitation over alleged irregularities in Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) recruitment examinations gathered momentum. Even as one fasting student was shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after his health deteriorated, protests spilled onto the streets and into the Jharkhand Assembly, prompting the state government to finally open talks with student representatives after days of sustained demonstrations. Student leader Rahul Kranti, who had been on an indefinite hunger strike since Tuesday night at Ranchi's Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium, was rushed to Ranchi Sadar Hospital after his condition turned critical.

Data-usage descriptors as search metadata: the case of food security data and the National ...
There have been a number of attempts to link datasets to papers. One of the most well-known is the dataset knowledge graph based on identifying dataset mentions in abstracts and citation contexts in the Microsoft Academic Knowledge Graph23. Two working groups in the Research Data Alliance (Scholarly Link Exchange and Data Usage Metrics) have been developing standards and frameworks to link articles and datasets in order to develop data metrics24. A recent conference “The Make Data Count Summit” provides a rich overview of actionable next steps, including the work described in this paper.25 Google Dataset Search crawls the web and has identified 45 million datasets from 13,000 sources26. This paper draws on both the previous work and on our own decade-long effort to develop data-usage descriptors. We started more than a decade ago with relatively primitive Natural Language Processing(NLP) techniques27 to determine whether it was possible to find datasets in publications. We found funding to pay six annotators to work for almost six months to manually read and annotate a set of 10,000 open access publications and we designed a competition in 2018 which attracted 20 submissions in February 201928. Those techniques were improved by attracting more than 1600 teams...

After the floods, hunger: Mozambique's second disaster
Xai-Xai, Mozambique – Months after floodwaters tore through his neighbourhood, Joacim Pinto still walks past the empty plots where his crops once grew. The ground that once gave his family food and income now stands as a reminder of what was lost. His livestock disappeared, and the gardens that provided food and security were swallowed by the floods. But for Pinto, 50, the disaster did not end when the water receded. For the resident of Xa-Xai, in Mozambique’s southern Gaza province, surviving the floods was only the beginning of the struggle. “We either die from the floods, or if we survive, hunger takes over,” Pinto tells Al Jazeera. The floods swept across Mozambique from late December 2025 into early 2026, leaving communities like Pinto’s facing a second crisis: finding enough money to buy food after losing the ability to produce much of it themselves. “The floods destroyed our wells, pipes, livestock and gardens,” Pinto says. “The price of basic food increased sharply.” Lost harvests Mozambique is still recovering from one of its most damaging flood seasons in recent years. The disaster affected communities across several central and southern provinces, including Gaza, Maputo, Inhambane, Sofala and Zambezia. For farming families, the...
