The bacteria in your gut depend on where you are in the social network around you. The microbes within us treat our social networks as the extended environment in which they thrive. They can spread from person to person. New #HNL work out today in @natureportfolio.bsky.social . 1/

Hello mother? Hello father? In the first hour after an earthquake, who you call reveals something important about your social network ties. An earthquake is a natural experiment in stressing one's network. academic.oup.com/pnasnexu…. #HNL work from 2023 in @pnasnexus.org

Olfaction lacks a quantitative framework similar to vision and hearing. In new #HNL work in @pnas.org, we show that odor mixture perception can be predicted. This lays a foundation for digital olfaction, machine-readable smell metrics, next-generation electronic noses, and odor teleportation.

In 2024 work in @pnas.org, @amir-ghasemian.bsky.social and I explore “The Structure and Function of Antagonistic Ties in Village Social Networks.” At the population level, the existence of antagonism has important implications for the overall structure and function of human groups. #HNL 1/

New #HNL paper in @pnas.org: Using evolutionary graph theory, we study embedded AI agents (such as LLMs) in "hybrid systems" of humans and machines and show that an intermediate, optimal presence of such agents best promotes cooperation. This points the way for steering control of network systems.

In new work from #HNL in @nathumbehav.nature.com ‬ spearheaded by @ericfeltham.bsky.social and with Laura Forastiere, we performed the largest and most detailed study of cognitive social networks -- evaluating network cognition in 10,072 adults in 82 Honduras villages. rdcu.be/eq93O 4/
