Today is the 81st anniversary of the nuclear bombing of #Hiroshima. Yet despite the gut wrenching horror, the 9 nuclear states have *already* amassed the equivalent firepower of 145.000 Hiroshima bombs & still want more. This is madness. #NoMoreHiroshimas @cnduk.bsky.social

6 agosto 1945, ore 8:16. Su Hiroshima esplode Little Boy, la prima bomba atomica usata in guerra. #Hiroshima #AccaddeOggi

I spent today telling mum’s story and that of Shin’s Tricycle to high school students. It’s been 81 years since the US committed this war crime & still have never been held to account for it. #Hiroshima

On this 80th anniversary of the nuclear bombing of #Hiroshima, my thoughts are with the survivors who have suffered so much. And it’s frankly horrifying that the 9 nuclear states have *already* amassed the equivalent firepower of 145.000 Hiroshima bombs - and still want more. @cnduk.bsky.social

Sorry for the lack of posts today. #Hiroshima held its annual peace ceremony on Thurs, marking 81 years since the atomic bombing. People across #Japan are taking time to pause & remember the victims. Hiroshima fell silent at 8:15 a.m., same minute the US dropped the bomb in 1945. Full story in ALT:
On August 6, 1945 at 8:16 am in Hiroshima (7:16 pm August 5th on the US East Coast), after falling for 43 seconds from the B-29 Superfortress Enola Gay, the Little Boy atomic bomb detonated 1,968 feet (600 meters) above the city, 550 feet (168 meters) from the Aioi Bridge. One second later the fireball reached maximum size, 900 feet in diameter (274 meters). The mushroom cloud began to form.

As temperatures on the ground reached 7,000 degrees Fahrenheit (3871 Celsius), buildings melted and fused together, human and animal tissue vaporized. The blast wave traveled at 984 miles per hour in all directions, demolishing over two-thirds of Hiroshima’s buildings in a massive, expanding firestorm. Eighty thousand people were instantly killed or grievously wounded. Over 100,000 more would die from the bomb’s effects in the coming months.
