I don't know if I'm using this descriptive alt text correctly, but I'll try: In this picture, I am on the left and my son on the right. We are greeting people after ceremony. We are wearing our ceremonial robes, depicting some of our crest prerogatives. I am wearing an eagle on my robe, my son a beaver. I am wearing a cedar bark-woven hat, my son is wearing a Raven's Tail headband. I am holding a drum. We are both ceremonial singers. We belong to the Kay'ahl Laanas / Ts'aahl clan from Haida Gwaii. We have the right to wear Eagle, Beaver and several other crests.
I am standing (left) with two of my clan sisters at our 2022 pole raising at Xaayna, Haida Gwaii. I am wearing a fancy woven cedar bark hat by Marlene Liddle, holding my gaawjaaw (drum) designed and painted by my brother Iljuuwaas Tyson Brown. The design on the drum is one of our crests, the maamats'iigaay (dragonfly).
This is a photo of my daughter dancing at a recent potlatch on Haida Gwaii. She is wearing a ceremonial robe featuring our clan's principal crest, K'aagwaay (Five-finned Seamonster). The design is by my brother, Iljuuwaas Tyson Brown. It is the principal crest of our clan. When people see K'aagwaay, they know they are looking at a Kay'ahl Laanas Haida. I made the blanket, hand-cut out and machine-appliquΓ©d the design. My daughters' aunties sewed on abalone buttons. She was presented this robe at her high-school graduation to mark this passage in her life. She is wearing a fancy cedar bark-woven hat by Marlene Liddle. *Jeff Gibbs photo.
This is a photo of a a person becoming a Gaagiixid (Wild person of the woods) mask by my brother Iljuuwaas Tyson Brown. Wood-carved, painted, horse hair, abalone shell eyes, operculum shell teeth. We dance Gaagiixid often to capture the attention of the audience before performing ceremony, but there is much more to the gaagiixid.

No matter how hard he tries, #Haida just can't stop thinking about the Mask of Loki and its intoxicating power. Soon enough he gives in and he wears the cursed artifact... As the mask wraps around his head, he transforms into a rebellious punk hyena! #Art by @nearusenpai.bsky.social #TheMask
A sequence of images depicting a transformation. The first image shows Haida from Aggretsuko, holding the mask of Loki in his arms. The second image shows Haida wearing the mask, as it's surface becomes malleable and tendrils from for its edges. The third image shows the back side of Haida's head, as the tendrils from the mask wrap around it. The fourth image shows Haida turned into a small tornado. The last image shows a masked Haida, now with a more muscular build, wearing a punk outfit and a more confident, rebellious attitude.
