it’s come to my attention that my tumblr post has been crossposted to bluesky, so I’m posting it on my account here #AntiAI #GenAI
recently my friend's comics professor told her that it's acceptable to use gen AI for script-writing but not for art, since a machine can't generate meaningful artistic work. meanwhile, my sister's screenwriting professor said that they can use gen AI for concept art and visualization, but that it won't be able to generate a script that's any good. and at my job, it seems like each department says that AI can be useful in every field except the one that they know best.

It's only ever the jobs we're unfamiliar with that we assume can be replaced with automation. The more attuned we are with certain processes, crafts, and occupations, the more we realize that gen AI will never be able to provide a suitable replacement. The case for its existence relies on our ignorance of the work and skill required to do everything we don't.

Something about "you are the product" (bacon) Or maybe the investors are the bacon #genAI
Screenshot from mileswildermusic on Threads:
"“Slop” is so visceral to me because I grew up feeding literal slop to pigs. Buckets and buckets of table scraps, garden trash, cheap grain, etc. soaked in water and poured into a trough. Pigs LOVE slop. We’d pour it out and they’d jostle each other and scarf it down in big reckless mouthfuls with happy, satisfied grunts. Pigs are smart animals, but not enough to understand the reason for the slop buffet. They didn’t know about bacon. I see people satisfied using Gen AI. Do they know about bacon? "

So-called #genAI means the abolition of the future through the proliferation of endless streams of stochastically rendered generic pasts. Having turned large parts of the cultural archive into training data, it now traps us in a foreverized pastness, a 24/7 nostalgia for a past that never existed

have just come across a YouTube account that has been using Sora to upload reels of fake, AI-generated “90s sitcoms” every few hours

🧵Teaching Students NOT to use AI So...I've tried to explain to my students why they aren't allowed to use genAI in MY class (even though the university seems to be encouraging them to) I've written this document to try to explain WHY it's a bad idea rather than just forbidden fruit. #AI #genAI

Garbage in, Garbage out. Mit KI nur hübscher und teurer. (geklaut, wegen fehlender Bildbeschreibung) #AI #AgenticAI #genai

There’s a growing & deeply problematic tendency to use #genAI for political and historical education Take this example from Germany, which translates as: «Hey AI, who should I vote for.» What’s typical here is that AI is not only addressed as pseudo-person but also as a kind of impartial judge 1/

Turning online archives into resources for training data not only exploits and devalues the archived works, but also renders these archives literally unusable. Like all extractivist business models, #genAI ultimately threatens to destroy its own foundations. It's not generative, but destructive

Just went looking for something at the excellent Hagley Digital Archives, and was greeted by the message below. They're being overrun by bots, as "AI systems increasingly target sites like ours to train machine learning models." The web is being murdered. So aggravating. digital.hagley.org

"The Hagley Digital Archives is currently offline due to a sustained bot attack" begins a message from the archive, explaining that AI is using bots to train machine learning learning models.
