But I am glad that charging Husk’s batteries matches up so
neatly with fostering a positive romantic relationship.”
Rune nodded. Honesty was key to keeping Husk afloat. It was
also key to getting the most out of Liera’s addition to their
crew.

#wipsnips This one is from my #wip, 1/3 complete, as yet unnamed sequel to “Shadow Of Horizon” in which Lt. Cmdr Sarah Jensen is forced to deal with the ongoing issues at Horizon outpost on Mars. #writesky #fourth #sci-fi

Jensen didn't respond, recognizing Harlow's grousing as his irascible personality leaking out in rhetorical question form. Instead she followed him down a short hallway to one of the four private rooms in the medical bay, three of which were occupied by the victims of the accident.

The fourth victim, Santos, was still missing and at this point Cole was all but certain he would remain that way, given the severity and location of the accident.

Entering Moreau's room, Harlow drew back the curtain surrounding the bed and nodded to the nurse who had been sitting next to Moreau. She stood and left, leaving Jensen, the doctor and the patient.

Jensen had been kept up to date on all the victim's injuries. In Moreau's case, he had been standing on the far side of the mining equipment, which left the machinery between him and the ignition point to bear the brunt of the explosion. It had probably saved his life.

As they made their way back through the kitchen, it became clear to Charlie that Luka was in charge. He tasted the contents of different pots and pans, remarking on their thickness or lack of salt. Here he inspected a cube of cheese and berated the person responsible for its cut size being closer to an eighth of an inch than the expected fourth. There he yelled at another worker for being five minutes behind where they should have on prep. Three different emergencies were brought to his attention in the time it took to walk from the back door to the dining room, and he resolved them all with a plan of action hatched on the spot.
