Pretend it's #FootwearFriday, because I have a lovely treat. This lone slipper is all that remains of a pair that must have been worn to a splendid party or two in the 1860s, likely with a gown in a matching shade of pink. hub.catalogit.app/genesee…. πŸ—ƒοΈπŸͺ‘
The toe of a pink kid shoe, embroidered with an oak branch, complete with acorns. There is a pink ribbon rosette on the vamp tab.

The dramatic piecing on this black-and-white kid leather slipper presaged WWI naval "dazzle" camouflage by over a century, but it has a similar monochromatic drama. White stitching on the black adds an extra stripe of contrast. #FootwearFriday πŸ—ƒοΈπŸͺ‘
A single slipper with an almost non-existent heel and a pointed toe. The vamp is decorated with swoops of black leather over white, and the top piece of black leather (which also covers the quarter) is vandyked. Bound with black ribbon.

Let's be cozy on #FootwearFriday: embroidered slippers like these were a common home craft for accomplished women. You can find many Berlinwork patterns for slipper tops in periodicals like Peterson's Magazine and Godey's Lady's Book. πŸ—ƒοΈπŸͺ‘

#FootwearFriday for real! This pair (G2005.157a-b) dates to the 1730s based on the construction and fabric design. One can imagine them worn by a woman with very small feet, fastened with a pair of gleaming silver buckles. πŸ—ƒοΈπŸͺ‘
A pair of heeled shoes with latches, but no buckles. They are covered with brown silk brocades with red and white flowers and vines.
