Exact same masking technique can be used for styling text differently depending on whether it intersects that area of the image. Just with an #SVG #filter on a figure containing an img & figcaption. No extra elements or pseudos to duplicate the text or img. Selectable text, right click menu on img.
Collage of poster effects where the text has a visible stroke and a transparent fill where it intersects a contrasting part of the background (like red, blue or black garments or dark silhouettes) and a solid fill outside this intersection.
The first effect from the previous collage, showing that the text is selectable and right clicking the img brings up the typical img context menu. On the right, the DevTools panel is open to reveal a simple HTML structure: just an img and a figcaption inside a figure. There is no text or image duplication whatsoever.

Selective saturation 🍊 Just a super simple #SVG #filter does it in 3 steps: 1️⃣ mask out all outside areas with RGB channels in a certain range (🍊 here) & save result 2️⃣ desaturate entire image 3️⃣ place masked result on top of desaturated image 🥳🎉 Live demo on @codepen.io: codepen.io/thebabydino/...
Screenshot. Shows the filtered (all desaturated in the image other than the sliced orange) and original versions of the same image on the left. On the right, the DevTiools panel is open to show the HTML structure with the simple 3 steps = 3 primitives SVG filter and the figure with an img and figcaption.

⚠️ #audio #DSP nerdism I spend quite a long time trying to understand why a formula calculating SVF (State Variable Filter) parameters from a z-equation didn’t work. I tried to match standard DF1 filters obtained using bilinear transform with Andrew Simper’s time-discrete SVFs but the formula […]

Since I mentioned the linked demos using a background-image technique instead so they can work cross-browser, here's the better (no Safari) approach on @codepen.io: codepen.io/thebabydino/... Heavily commented, both the #SVG #filter and the #CSS building up the filter input.
No text/ image duplication poster v2 (no Safari, heavily commented)

**Warning: may not work properly if you're using Chrome and have a wide gamut display.** This is due to [bug 🪲 373410239](https://issues.chromium.org/i...

So what then? How do we visually place the image in the top half, but still get the img right click menu in the bottom half? The best way is using the technique I mentioned yesterday bsky.app/profile/anat... (unfortunately, it doesn't work in Safari, so the cross-browser demos above use a fallback)
Screenshot showing the img right click image in the lower half, even though the image content is in the top half.
