Today's aesthetic is early 1980s Sword & Sorcery film posters that promise way more than their movies can deliver. #FantasyFriday
The film poster for Ator the Fighting Eagle (Italian: "Ator l'invincibile," 1982) showing the eponymous hero wielding a triple-headed morningstar flail and flanked by a sabertoothed tiger and a shapely brunette in bikini armour. Neither flails nor sabertooth cats appear in the film, and Ator's adventuring partner is played by the blonde Sabrina Siani.
The film poster for Sorceress (1982) featuring a woman with long blonde hair and bikini armour being menaced by a snake while an axe-wielding ape-man threatens a manticore. The blonde heroines of the film have short hair and don't wear bikini armour, and no snakes appear. The ape-man also never wields an axe and doesn't fight the briefly appearing manticore.
The film poster for The Throne of Fire (Italian: Il Truono di Fuoco, 1983) featuring yet another blonde in bikini armour (also played by Sabrina Siani) wielding a large sword while a muscular man is bound by a snake in the background. There's also a snarling big cat and a cool looking castle atop a natural spire. Siani's character does not wield a sword, no big cats appear, the castle's location is nowhere near as fantastic, and there's only a brief perfunctory scene of the hero grappling with a fairly amenable snake from the pet store.
The film poster for Conquest (1983) showing a huge armoured foe shooting eye-beams at the muscular hero while the villainess wearing even less than bikini armour and a giant snake casts a magic spell at him. All of these elements *do* appear in the film, but they don't look nearly as impressive as they do on the poster.
