ECI announces bypoll to one vacant RS seat from MP after Murugan’s resignation
New Delhi, Oct 22 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Election Commission of India on Thursday announced a by-election to fill a vacancy in the Rajya Sabha from Madhya Pradesh. The vacancy arose due to the resignation of L. Murugan, whose term was originally scheduled to continue until April 2, 2030. According to a press note, the vacancy became effective on October 14, following Murugan’s resignation. The Commission has decided to hold the bye-election to ensure the seat does not remain vacant for an extended period and to uphold the constitutional requirement of timely representation in the Upper House of Parliament.

A Bench of Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi directed that the petition be tagged with other matters already pending before the apex court challenging the validity of the SIR exercise in various states.
