It really annoys me to see the press use the idea that there's a 'debate' about something where clearly there isn't. There is no 'debate' about play in the #EarlyYears. It's absolutely central to development, part of the statutory framework and a basic right for all children in the phase. 😊

Not everything about play needs an adult or content 😌. Sometimes children just need time to be. Babies need time for unoccupied play (adult is there), such as kicking their legs, trying tummy time, or putting their hands feet into their mouths, helps babies explore the world #PlayMatters #Earlyyears

There's been a lot of talk about play recently in the #EarlyYears community especially given the @ofstednews.bsky.social quote that children's "hands and bodies are active, but their minds are not". Firstly, this is very obviously a misunderstanding of how play works based on poor observation. 🧵⬇️

It was very cute when I drove back from the garden centre today because I passed our preschool children making their way up the road to forest club with their red trailer in their all weather suits. They had stopped to check out some horses that were passing by en route. 😊 #earlyyears
