The walk this morning was a bit sad and a reminder that, yes, we are in a drought. All the lovely thimbleberries are just dried up. They look like they were freeze dried. The dewberries are shriveled. No osoberries, so I guess the birds are them. #SeattleWashington #SeattleSummer #Drought2026

Hawaii is the only state to see improvements to drought or dryness this week. The windward slopes of the Big Island, Maui and Molokai received 4 to 10 inches or more of rain, with snow in higher elevations. (1/2) #drought #drought2026 #Hawaii
USDM Hot Topic February 12, 2026: Hawaii. Abnormal dryness through extreme drought improved in Hawaii this week: from 84.69% to 84% in coverage of abnormal dryness; 68.65% to 59.42% of moderate drought; 23.72% to 17.9% of severe drought; and 4.68% to 3.43% of extreme drought. The Drought Severity and Coverage Index fell from 182 to 165 of 500.

Much of South Carolina received 1 to 2 inches of rain over the past week. Despite a wet week in the Southeast, rainfall over the past four months is below normal across many areas. This includes eastern South Carolina, which saw a small area of exceptional drought emerge. #Drought #Drought2026 #US
USDM Hot Topic August 6, 2026: South Carolina. Abnormal dryness through extreme drought improved in South Carolina this week: for abnormal dryness or drought, from 100% to 98.91%; for moderate drought or worse, from 83.92% to 75.56%; for severe drought or worse, from 47.79% to 40.07%; and for extreme drought or worse, from 21.21% to 19.72%. Exceptional drought now covers 0.19%.
