When I was a kid
Six or so
A compulsion developed
Like trying to satisfy a need
I had to walk even numbers,
Evenly on each leg
Right, left, right, left, right, left
Switch

Again! Again!

Somewhere along the line,
It became odd numbers

But the consequences made me hate myself and everyone else
Methamphetamine turned it up, sped it up
Made the solutions weirder
Go figure
More anger, more hating
More danger

It's been 40 years, maybe more
I think that one day, when they uncover my bones, my jaw will be clenched more tightly on one side
I hope that last one will have done it for me

Maybe the answer IS death
After all, I was born
Symmetry would be the other thing
The universe will be at peace
