This is the greenhouse I work in for the Seattle Giving Garden Network. At present there are 4 greenhouses around Seattle providing starts for giving gardens. #Sustainability #CommunityBuilding #CommunityGardens #Resilience

The sign outside the greenhouse gives a mission statement for our Maple Leaf Sprouts greenhouse. "This project plants seed here every spring. We grow thousands of vegetable sprouts. We give them away to Giving Gardens. The Giving Gardens grow the plants in their P-Patch, community or home gardens. They donate their harvest to area Food Banks."

The greenhouse is located in the parking lot of the Fairfield Ministries. It's fairly small, but once the seedlings are ready to pot up the second time, they'll be outside hardening up.

Two shelves of seedling flats sit on warming pads with covers on them to help maintain an even moisture/heat regime.

The rest of the greenhouse has soil bins, lots of seedling flats to be prepped in succession, and more shelves to spread repotted plants on before they go outside to harden up. When I go in, there isn't much to be done until we transplant. We check the temperatures, moisture levels and brush the seedlings to emulate wind (this makes the main stems stronger). Th real work starts in a couple of weeks.
