Coatimundi (Nasua nasua): This mammal is a member of the Raccoon family & found in a wide range of tropical & sub-tropical South America, where it is aka the South American Coati. Total length is up to 113cm (44in). Superb photo of a young Coati taken by Josh Dennington in Mexico #coatimundi #coati

The Galiuro Mountains in front of my home are part of the rare Sky Islands of the US, home to unique species, including the white-nosed #coati (also called #coatimundi). #cameratrap

#2025MMM Same&Different category, #Coati vs #FigEatingBat! There are several species of coati in South America and they have very different coloration. The one depicted here is N. narica, the white-nosed coati. The fig-eating bat is a poorly studied, so little is know about it. ๐Ÿงช๐Ÿก๐ŸฆŠ #watercolor #art
Watercolor art of the fig-eating bat, a medium-small sized bat species found in the tropics, and the coati, a South American mammal related to racoons. The bat has dark grey or black wings with light yellow or tan coloration on the membrane between the first and second fingers, and yellow ears. It also has a notable leaf-shaped nose and a spot of white fir behind the year. The coati is predominantly brown with white spots on it's elongated nose and near the eyes. It's limbs are darker brown and there is a striped pattern along its long tail, which is held straight up. These species are part of March Mammal Madness 2025

A heartwarming clip of a mama white-nosed #coati and her youngster caught on #cameratrap. These beautiful creatures are at risk of losing their water source, home & lives in Arizona's Sky Island - the Galiuro Mountains - due to #copper mining.

Tell meโ€ฆ is there anything cuter than a baby #coati?
This is a baby white-nosed coatimundi climbing a rock to get to mama and family, who have moved off camera. With their semi-prehensile tails (which are striped rust and white), they have a lemur look, but with a really long nose, white eyes and a white ring around the snout. They live in Arizona, Mexico and S. America.
