Claire Foy and George Clooney were among the leading stars on the red carpet at the opening night of the Venice Film Festival, where Danny Boyle's Ink premiered. Foy, 42, attracted attention in a custom red Bottega Veneta gown, matching glasses, Christian Louboutin heels and opera gloves, adopting a classic Hollywood-inspired look. She plays Jules Davies, a fictional newspaper executive at The Sun, in the film, which centres on Rupert Murdoch's takeover of the newspaper in 1969. Foy said she found working in the world of 1960s tabloid journalism particularly intoxicating, describing the influence and power reporters had at the time. During his acceptance speech, he criticised authoritarian figures who use fear and also reflected on ageing, family life and his decision to work less frequently as a director. Clooney said he was happy to concentrate on acting because directing requires longer periods away from his children. He also said he hoped to make another Oceans film with Brad Pitt and Matt Damon when their schedules allow. His wife, Amal Clooney, accompanied him in an elegant black Tom Ford gown. Other stars attending included Jack O'Connell, Alessandra Ambrosio, Nina Dobrev, Jonathan Bailey and Maggie Gyllenhaal. The Venice Film Festival runs until 12 September, with further high-profile appearances expected.
