July 23rd is World Whale and Dolphin Day! 🐳🫍🐋🐬 The International Whaling Commission established this holiday in 1986 to mark the historic 1982 vote to ban commercial whaling. We must protect marine mammals and all aquatic wildlife. #conservation #cetaceans #ocean #wildlife

Bottlenose Dolphin cavorting in front of our house yesterday morning was entertaining, but surpassed today by at least 2 Orca heading south offshore, the latter sadly way too distant for any record shots. We're lucky enough to see Orca from Barra a few times most years. #cetaceans

This discovery amazed me: A whale "graveyard" extending over 1,200 km. The remains or fossils of about 480 whales found in a total survey area of about 0.64 square kilometres, with one of the fossils dating back more than 5 million years. 🧪 🐋 🦑 🦊 #cetaceans www.livescience.com/anima….
