A split-image portrait of Katherine Johnson, the pioneering Black NASA mathematician: On the left, a black-and-white historical photo from her NASA career in the 1960s shows a smiling middle-aged woman wearing cat-eye glasses and a light-colored dress with white collar and trim, seated at her desk with a globe and papers in the background. On the right, a color photo from 2015 depicts an elderly Katherine Johnson (in her late 90s) seated in a wheelchair during the Presidential Medal of Freedom ceremony, wearing glasses, a dark suit jacket, an orange top, a blue ribbon with the medal, and holding a green item in her lap, as she looks directly at the viewer with a gentle expression. The side-by-side images contrast her youthful professional life with her honored later years.

Color photograph of pioneering ophthalmologist and inventor Dr. Patricia Bath (1942โ€“2019), the first Black woman to receive a medical patent, smiling warmly in a white lab coat over a blue blouse, sitting next to her invention in a research lab surrounded by books and scientific equipment. Dr. Bath invented the Laserphaco Probe (U.S. Patent No. 4,744,360), a revolutionary laser device and technique for removing cataracts that restored sight to millions and advanced minimally invasive eye surgery. She was posthumously inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in 2022 as one of the first two Black women honorees. #PatriciaBath #Laserphaco #InventorsHallOfFame #WomenInScience
Professional color portrait of engineer Marian Croak, a trailblazing innovator in telecommunications, standing confidently in a blue tweed jacket with black trim against a blurred indoor background. She has short hair and a warm smile. Croak pioneered advancements in Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) technology (including U.S. Patent No. 7,599,359), enabling modern audio and video conferencing used in tools like Zoom, FaceTime, and WhatsApp, and holds over 200 patents. She was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in 2022 as one of the first two Black women honorees. #MarianCroak #VoIP #WomenInTech #InventorsHallOfFame

"Mother of Chemotherapy" Dr. Jane Wright died #OTD in 2013. + Helped shift cancer treatment from palliative care to modern chemotherapy by establishing methotrexate as a foundational treatment for breast cancer in 1951 + Only woman co-founder, American Society of Clinical Oncology #WomenInSTEM #BHM
Black-and-white portrait of Dr. Jane C. Wright (1919โ€“2013), pioneering Black surgeon, oncologist, and "mother of chemotherapy," seated at a laboratory workbench in a clinical research setting. She wears a white lab coat over a dark top and gazes directly at the camera with a composed, focused expression. In front of her is a large compound microscope with multiple objective lenses, adjustment knobs, and a stage, positioned prominently in the foreground. Her left hand rests near an open notebook or lab record book on the table, while stacks of papers or slides are visible nearby. The background shows softly blurred lab equipment and shelving, evoking a mid-20th-century medical research environment.
