#OTD in 2020, Rockford Peaches pitcher Mary Pratt died at age 101. One of the first members of the Peaches, the team at the heart of the movie "A League of Their Own." A southpaw, she used her famous "controlled slingshot" to pitch a no-hitter in June 1944. I ❤️ #baseball ⚾️
This side-by-side composition celebrates the life of Mary "Prattie" Pratt (1918–2020), a trailblazing pitcher for the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL). On the left, a vintage black-and-white portrait shows a young Pratt in her 1940s playing days. She beams with a joyful, spirited expression, wearing her official short-sleeved tunic uniform with a prominent circular team patch on the chest and a dark, belted waist. Her dark hair is styled in the era's signature soft waves, pinned neatly back. To the right, a vibrant, modern color photograph captures an older Pratt in her home, brimming with the same athletic energy. She wears a blue long-sleeved polo shirt and is mid-motion, tossing a baseball into the air with her right hand. Her eyes are bright and focused on the ball, her face alive with a playful smile. The background is a dense, nostalgic gallery of her life's work, featuring framed team photos, memorabilia, and baseball caps that line the walls of her room. The overall composition creates a bridge between her historic achievement—including a 21-win season and a no-hitter in 1944—and her lifelong devotion to the sport. The mood is one of enduring passion and resilience, honoring her significance as one of the original members of the Rockford Peaches and a lifelong advocate for women in sports.

I'd like to point out that the A's (currently of West Sacramento, CA) are celebrating Pride Night and the non-profit of the game is the Sacramento LBGT Community Center. I've never been more proud to be an A's fan -- especially considering what some of the Giants did this week. #baseball
