Monsoon magic tonight! I ran outside in my crocs & managed to get these ⚡️ #azwx
Bright lightning bolts in the sky with a purple sky
Twisty lightning bolts in the sky with a purple glow
The same bolts, now with the sky a green grey

#Phoenix is concluding its 6th warmest November on record with a monthly mean temperature of 69.0F (20.6C). 2020, 2021, 2023, and 2025 have all ranked among the 10 warmest Novembers on record. #azwx

I can’t even believe I got this photo. I wasn’t supposed to chase that day. I ran out to the edge of the desert at the last minute. I happened across this scene, but this cell wasn’t producing much lightning. Still, I set up the cameras & waited. Finally, it let loose this beastly double bolt. #azwx

The seasonal anomalousness, as well sheer spatial extent, of upcoming record-shattering Western U.S. heatwave is genuinely startling. This will be associated with, by far, the strongest ridge ever observed during (at least) any Nov-Mar month. #CAwx #AZwx #NMwx #NVwx #UTwx #COwx
Map, from polarwx.com, of ECMWF model's forecast for 500mb heights later this week and their rank relative to the historical record for March over North America. A giant pink blob is visible over western North America, indicating an absurdly large area of record-breaking 500mb GPH.

From one of the few storm chasing days I’ve had this monsoon season, a mid-afternoon dry air bolt east of Kingman on July 12th. #azwx #stormchasing

Following a period of widespread anomalous warmth in the Southwest, including CA, that featured some record high temperatures in recent days--a much cooler and wetter pattern is on tap for the first 1-2 weeks of March. Widespread rain is likely in CA, including SoCal. #CAwx #AZwx
Precipitation projection from ECMWF ensemble for next 10 days, presented in map form. All of CA is likely to see meaningful rainfall during this period, heaviest north and in mountains (where good snow accumulation is also likely).
