So, who decided that The Transformers Autobots would be mostly cars while Decepticons would be planes and weapons? Bob Budiansky, who named and created the personalities for most of the original Transformers, has said that Hasbro gave him a box of Japanese toys and told him which figures were Autobots and which were Decepticons. In other words, Budiansky created characters such as Megatron, Starscream and Soundwave around their assigned toys, but he did not decide that the cars would be heroes and the jets would be villains. Shooter characterized the Autobots as peaceful beings devoted to commerce, travel and transportation, while the Decepticons had redesigned themselves for warfare—becoming weapons, military aircraft and surveillance or communications devices. When they copied Earth machinery, the Autobots therefore became vehicles, while the Decepticons became weapons, aircraft and electronic devices. So, who decided The Transformers' forms?
