2024 Overview 🧵: In 2024, I published 42 books: 28 books written by me: 27 children's books, 1 adult book 14 translations: 6 into English, 7 into Spanish & 1 into both English + Spanish (my first translation from French) #kidlit #amwriting #amtranslating 1/?

I am still missing copies of a few titles, both written by me and translated by me.

A photo of most of the children's books written by me that were published this year around the world, including both new titles and translations of older titles. There are books in Changana, Sena, Macua, Urdu, Bulgarian, Italian, Finnish, Turkish, Spanish, German, Portuguese, and English, among others.

The one adult book by me published this year: A BEARD PARADOX, translated by Sandra Kingery (Rebel Satori Press), a collection of 100 erotic flashfiction stories originally written in Spanish.

Pro Tip: You can usually lose the そして/すると/“and then” type conjunctions that start so many light novel paragraphs. We do not use this avalanche of connectors in English. The “and then” is generally taken as a given when one sentence follows the next. #AmTranslating

It takes more time, but rereading your whole entire translation again against the source text before submission is so important. Brought to you by the fact that I noticed I had skipped three whole sentences in a row in my translation during my editing pass this morning. #AmTranslating

No. Absolutely not. Eguchi Hisashi needs to pay for his manga crimes. He must stub all of his toes on every piece of furniture he walks past for the rest of his days. #AmTranslating

A page from Stop!! Hibari-kun! that is covered in all kinds of SFX and handwritten dialogue and word balloons, crowding out the actual images of a classroom full of students. It's all snippets of unconnected conversations which is one of the worst things to have to translate.

必ず, 絶対, and similar words are often better rendered in English by emphasizing the modified verb with bold/italic rather than shoehorning an “absolutely” or “always” into the sentence. This also saves space, essential for tiny word balloons in manga. #AmTranslating

“They got out of the stopped taxi.” Why must you be so absurdly specific, Japanese? Would native speakers panic reading “They got out of the taxi”? Would they cry out, “But it’s still moving!! They’ll die!” #AmTranslating
