Standing in February ocean waters, ankle deep pain till it's numb. The shot of Eureka moment, then the tides take me away piece by piece. I let you in, only to let you go. But where to go from here? You looked back, no sadness nor malice, just as witness to the end of us. I become a pillar of salt, now returning to the sea.

I have become air,
and salt slipping shells of what
we might have been, once.

When the mask came off
lies I always told myself
grew silent and still.

Behind the mirror
waited the woman I was
always meant to be.

I didn't know how
to be her, to wear her walk
and speak with her voice.

I only knew that
the suffering had gone on
long enough for peace.

What remained when nothing else
was left to argue, was me.

When I am lost inside myself
I imagine a beach

shore cutting like a hemline
skirt stretching and receding as
watery hands tug at them.

I give myself to the push and pull
of unseen hands.
I, the surf, begging for release.

The horizon line, a flat empty thing
yet I am captured by it, drowned
in the vast never-ending.

No matter how large my fears are
it dwarfs them in depth, scope,
then dissolves, seafoam on sand.

I let the tide teach my heartbeat
how to be still.
