There's a story to be written about what the proper punishment is for an elderly offender with health issues, but to frame this as an oopsie is journalistic malpractice. He wasn't "caught on video colliding with a group of cyclists." He turned his car into a weapon and rammed into human beings.

This guy was caught on video committing one of the worst road rage incidents I've ever seen, plowing into a group of ridersβ€”and then he left the scene. Seriously, fuck the Atlanta Journal-Constitution for framing him as some sort of a victim. You are complicit assholes. www.ajc.com/news/2026/10...

This video camera study showed that less than 5% of people on bikes broke traffic laws while riding bikes, yet 66% of people did so while driving. And perhaps even more importantly, if you REALLY want even MORE bike-riders to obey laws, build more protected bike infrastructure. Via @carltonreid.com

I lived in NYC for two dozen years specifically because I wanted to live somewhere where the trains ran all night so I could be safe. If you want to build a region that moves past car dependency, all night service is essential. And if NYC can do it with a much older, so can we. But sadly...

"I think it should be our goal to have the system run all night. That we should figure out a way to rotate the cars in and out of service, maybe have reduced hours during the dark of night, but instead of just accepting that we just need to keep incrementally adding more, that should be our goal."

the space DUI occupies is low key one of the most insane things about car culture. it's both heavily stigmatized for obvious reasons, while also sort of tacitly generally accepted as common practice to the point of legally requiring BLACKOUT ZONE BAR & GRILL to have a minimum number of parking spots

this is a first: "don't build a protected bike lane/pedestrian crossing because a drunk driver will hit it"

$44 MILLION of your tax dollars to build concrete islands in the middle of a busy avenue in California. They call them "road diets."

Nothing says traffic safety like putting concrete obstacles in the middle of the road.

Drunk drivers are going to LOVE these
