As a near-daily Citibike user, I can tell you that the lower speed limit seem less safe, at least for cyclists. The ability to proceed near traffic speed (~18 mph) when necessary is invaluable, but I would not expect Adams or Tisch or Mastro to understand why.

"It’s a war on bikes, it’s a war on immigrants, and it undermines traffic safety," the former NYC DOT official told Streetsblog on Wednesday. "I think it’s Adams basically trying to mount a populist assault on cycling."

Need to pick up your kids from summer camp? There’s a cargo bike library bike for that. Bonus: It might be faster (as bikes usually get to skip to car pickup line)! Mplscargobikelibrary.com

Please don't let the road lobby coopt abundance. Abundant transit + bikes would be great. Abundant cars + highways would be a disaster.

Zohran Mamdani promised to make New York City's buses fast and free. Can we have both? The policy has split transit advocates, and it'll be a key proposal on the road to November. (Shoutout to the Q23, my childhood ride and 2022 slowest bus of the year) www.nytimes.com/2025/07/0….
Mamdani’s Win Has Put Buses in the Spotlight. Should They Be Free?

London’s West End Project is transforming the area by reclaiming space previously dominated by cars for people. This transformation involves creating wider sidewalks, new vibrant neighborhood pocket parks, and safer spaces for walking and cycling.

Parking reform, Chicago style: you get a 50% reduction in the parking requirement for development near transit stops. If you want to build even less parking than that, you must get special approval and pay $500 If you want to build any MORE parking than that, you ALSO need special approval, $500

Counterpoint: bring back an EV program that provides some $ to auto buyers (not wholly convinced) but expand program to provide, say, $1000/person electric bike; $2000/cargo bike; this would have far greater impact and boost active transportation in cities; create critical mass to spur investment

Taken from a great YouTube by @ohtheurbanity.bsky.social, this chart of road fatalities per 100,000 pop in major US and Australian States and Canadian Provinces is stark. Death rates correlate with how much we drive, car sizes, Public Transport & pedestrian infrastructure youtube.com/watch?v=JBPk...
A column chart with 44 columns arranged with the tallest at left to the shortest at right. Column height represents total fatalities per 100,000 population per annum, and each bar represents one State of the USA, Province of Canada or State of Australia having a population of at least 2 million. Columns for US States are coloured dark blue, Canadian Provinces red and Australian States yellow. The leftmost and tallest column is Mississippi with a value of about 26. The tallest 34 bars are all US States, leading down to New Jersey with a height of about 7, then comes Alberta at about 6, then the final two US States (Massachusetts and New York) both almost 6, and the remaining seven bars all being Canadian or Australian with British Columbia at 5 down to Victoria at right at about 2.5

One reason this is a BFD is cycling on the WA side of the river is fraught and far less straightforward than the OR side. And less transit service on WA side. I tried riding a 3-mile section of SR-14 last summer and it was absolutely the hands-down worst cycling experience I’ve ever had.

Ohhhh look at the top priority item for the Klickitat County RTP!

A short list of priority transportation projects for this county. Most of them are actually related to active transportation or transit which is pretty cool.
First item in the priority list is to “Develop shuttle service to popular trailhead and boat launch locations” along
SR-14, which is the state highway running along the Washington side of the Columbia river and the Columbia River Gorge area.

I’ll say it again — Metro Vancouver is THE North American hotbed for transit-oriented development. No other North American region comes close. Today was DAY 1 of 4 days of “deep dives” where I’m touring municipal leaders from Ontario, riding skytrain lines & digging into transformed station areas.

Noticed the bike racks in front of the Bike Lane shop on Milwaukee have the sign that they are going to be removed. That's a bummer.

Due to dangerous and erratic driving behavior, my neighborhood submitted dozens of proposals and requests for traffic calming at a specific street crossing into Brackett Park used by children and families. The @cityofminneapolis.bsky.social sent a Public Works employee to observe (1/2)
