The bank of the Seine in Paris used to be space for cars. Now for several years it’s been a special place for people in a city making more & more of them. All it took was leadership. Oh, and fighting and winning a court battle when that leadership was challenged. HT @emmanuelspv.bsky.social for pic.
Former highway along the Seine now filled with people, art etc.

There are a few instances where I support properly designed throttles on ebikes and this is definitely one of them. There are folks of all ages who might have a tough time to get going and a throttle that can get you up to pedal speed from a stop is a major enabler for some.

🎉 Quelle joie de recevoir une VIP à Paris : ma mère! A 81 ans elle fait toujours tout à vélo aux Pays-Bas. Son verdict : “Il est plus facile de faire du vélo à Paris que chez toi en banlieue!”

It's wild Democrats might elect a Republican to the City council in 2025. Wealthy car brained homeowners poison city politics all over this country with their selfishness and arrogance.

There should be a roll in the mayors office called the Director of Implementing Plans. They just go every department, every meeting and just remind them of what the plan is supposed to be. You just (smugly) get to remind people of the Climate Action Plan or Vision Zero or Plan to Play.

Motornormativity has caused this. The same carbrains can't work out why kids stay indoors and are socially inexperienced with outdoor concepts either.
A map showing how in 4 generations the distance people allowed children to walk freely has dwindled from 6 miles to 300 yards.

It’s weird how car culture affects so many aspects and attitudes in life. Backpacks, the best way to carry a load on 2 feet, are only used for those too young to drive.

I bought a backpack to travel through Europe when I was a teenager, like a good American. I started to use a backpack for travel again so I could bike from my home to the train station, even if it makes me look like a teenager.

Heartbreaking. A disabled woman stranded due to a total lack of accessible infrastructure at a bus stop. This is what happens when we don't prioritize people over cars. We need transit equity & cities built for *everyone*. #FuckCars #AccessibilityNow v.redd.it/b7ai8kzr87ve1

Bluesky is “screen reader accessible” the way a staircase with curb cuts on each step is a “wheelchair ramp.” No keyboard nav. No useful landmarks. No focus memory. I lose my place every time I interact with a post. Compliance ≠ usability. Day 4 asking @support.bsky.team to fix this #A11yFail

I'm too tired to type it all out, but I had an extremely Southern California Car Culture Is the Worst day. Anyone concerned about our population going down has never driven in beach cities on the first warm Saturday of the year. We gotta pick up the pace with this depopulation thing.

This article is a few yrs old, but one thing they don’t mention is car dependent suburbs. I believe car dependency increases our loneliness. Walkable suburb w/local bars, cafes where you can chat with owners/ patrons helps fight loneliness even if they’re just small talk www.pbs.org/newshour/sho...

Why Americans are lonelier and its effects on our health

According to U.S. Census Bureau surveys, Americans have been spending less time with friends and more time alone since before the pandemic, which has only intensified the sense of social isolation. La...

Hey, so on the off-chance the strange person wearing the blue parka on the Seattle metro line that I just had a really unpleasant interaction with is reading this: Maybe don't try grabbing random women's hands completely unprovoked

This is disgusting and will get worse for our poorer areas as politicians and the rich will NOT allow these polluting monstrosities in their areas. It's redlining all over again to make the oligarchs even richer as the Trump administration gets rid of EPA regulations that will save people's lives.

"Secret Mall Apartment" is a documentary about a past event but might very well be a harbinger of future living conditions. We need to embrace more mixed use housing, not have people tucked away. 🙏 -E #mall #movie #SecretMallApartment

Below the picture are the words "They built a secret apartment in the mall. Now it's a movie."

I used to love a scant 6 minutes away from work by car. By bike it would probably have taken 10 minutes or so but it would be mostly on arterial roads and partly though an industrial area. Not very bike friendly

I just ran an errand that’s an 8 minute bike ride away. But because there are so many cars and no safe bike lane, I drove. By myself. In a car that seats five. That drive took me 12 minutes longer, not including all the extra time and space I took driving around the block looking for parking.

Presumably in a bid to out-woke the rest of Europe’s trams, Olomouc has tram tracks surrounded not by grass but by wildflowers. Also: bonus Actually Good cycle infrastructure.

On Wed 4/30/25 6:35 ppm the driver (24/F) of a 2023 Hyundai Elantra going south on Bradmoor Dr (with a stop sign) at Bradley Blvd/191 hit & injured a person (44/M) on a bicycle riding properly in the road at an unmarked crosswalk. Police (MCP3127004J) did not find anyone at fault.👀

There is a red X in the westbound lane of the state highway, indicating the location of the crash. There is a red arrow pointing south in the very wide side street toward the red X, indicating the path of the driver, who had a stop sign.
