Or Alta-vista. Funny, G still lists Netscape Navigator as a browser! I remember when google first started, when they were nothing. Before the evil started?

If we stick around long enough there might be some random netscape historiographer a quarter our age waxing poetic about it over archival footage.

Yeah one of my old bosses had been head of the Physics Department at UIUC when Andeerson was a generic grad student who decided to design a graphical web browsers (Mosaic/Netscape/Mozilla/Firefox). He sounded like he was a pretty normal guy at the time, who live off of Jimmy John’s sandwiches.

Really missing livejournal dedicated communities these days. I haven't been able to find a single person to discuss The Adventure of the Sussex Vampire (Sherlock story) with. I could have had a banging community post about it in the day.

My favourite time of spring when the ferns, trilliums and yellow trout lilies all start to sprout ❤️
Close up picture of group of green fern shoots just starting to unfurl out of ground. Growing out of grey, brown dirt and dead leaves.
Close up picture of yellow trout lily, green leaves with brown spots yellow flower with petals curled back sticking up from grouping of leaves
Trillium growing out of dead brown leaves on ground. Two round dead branches on ground on either side of plant. Green triangular leaves, flower bud growing at centre of leaves

Relying on just one platform is risky imo. Spread your content across small platforms too. Each one adds up, maximizing reach. Small wins stack. And you never know where that random LiveJournal view will lead 😂

In lieu of being fun and witty like everyone else on Bluesky I have clearly adopted the livejournal model of being painfully earnest and raw whoops sorry everyone.

Millennials grew up learning about how digital file systems work, we coded on Livejournal & Myspace, & this tech evolved with us so have some unconsious ability to pick up on digital artifacts. For Gen Z, everything is app-based & the only media environment they have known is one of misinformation.

What this study does is kill the notion that "Boomers" are less internet literate and more susceptible to online conspiracy theories, while Gen Z is "internet native" and savvier about navigating online information environments. Nope, everyone is vulnerable. And it's a big problem.

we had a class in 7th grade about the internet and one big section was about how to evaluate sources. a geocities page in rainbow comic sans run by Your Neighbor John? probably not a reliable source. a dot gov site with linked studies? better! so few people seem to have this skill nowadays 😵‍💫

Folk blir såklart inte glada om du inte orkar följa allas 13 olika sociala medier. "Är vi ovänner?" - nej men har du tänkt på att vissa kanske är helt utbrända av alla appar. Livet med ICQ var lättare.

“Google claims that it is the only company capable of running Chrome effectively due to complex service integrations.” Microsoft said the same about Netscape. Turns out, it was possible and it led to new browsers, like Chrome.
