Wide-ranging topics in the expected papers so far incl. plant hemoglobins, peat moss multiplication, synthetic biology, and retrograde signaling 🌿🔄👩‍🔬 @irnasa.bsky.social @csic.es @cnb-csic.bsky.social @pablopulidopqc.bsky.social #JXBspecialissues #PlantScience 🧪 @sebiology.bsky.social (2/2)
Special issue outline: The ability of plants to adapt to changing environmental conditions is crucial for sustaining ecosystems and agricultural resources. Recent advancements
in molecular and physiological research are shedding light on
how plants optimize essential processes such as photosynthesis and respond to various biotic and abiotic stresses. This special issue—published in association with the Workshop “Plants under Environmental Stress: Overcoming Current Climate Change” (Baeza, Jaén, Spain, November 2024)—explores cutting-edge research in mo- lecular mechanisms underlying the enhancement of photosynthesis, stress tolerance mechanisms, and integrating innovative approaches such as synthetic biology and artificial intelligence to address climate change challenges. It will also highlight current knowledge on how plants manage hormonal and redox signaling to optimizing defense mechanisms in increasingly hostile environments. List of expected papers in the issue, see link above.

View over a narrow, calm body of water between steep moss and grass-covered banks with evergreen and leafy trees towards a small house perched on a bluff above the water. Smoke is coming out the chimney.

Every journey carries a longing for something unseen. On my way to the Blue Mountains - Bláfjöll, Southwest #Iceland 🇮🇸 #EastCoastKin 📷 #ThePhotoHour #StormHour #smARTist #abyss #BlueSkyMonday #MountainMonday #AlphabetChallenge #WeekRforRoads
You are standing on a weathered asphalt road, its surface uneven and scarred by long, harsh winters. The road is still damp from a recent rain, reflecting a soft sheen of light. It stretches straight ahead toward a vanishing point, before gently curving out of sight to the right.

On either side, vast fields of ancient lava sprawl outward, blanketed in thick, vibrant green moss. The moss seems almost to glow, alive against the rough black rock underneath. Beyond the lava, to the right, low hills rise gently, their slopes lush and green. To the left and farther back, taller mountains emerge, adding depth to the distant landscape.

Above it all, dramatic clouds hang in the sky. Toward the center and left, they build into dark, heavy masses, while to the right, the sky opens into deep blue, with thinner streaks of cloud drifting apart. The sun itself is hidden beyond the top of the frame, but its light bathes much of the foreground in a warm glow. In the distance and toward the left, shadows from the clouds play across the moss, creating a patchwork of light and shade.

The road beckons you onward - into the unknown and the promise of new adventures.

A forest floor after rain, with saplings and thick moss looking lush. There’s a downed birch in the middle, growing some small fungi. Most of the picture is green, contrasted with older fern fronds in red.
