White-crowned Sparrows are the handsomest sparrows, even the juveniles. If I'm wrong, post a pic to prove it. #birding 😍

My Tree Swallow on a fence photo won first place for urban wildlife in the Bird Alliance of Oregon's inaugural photo contest. The Cormorant photo above it was the grand prize winner. #birds #photography
A collection of bird and wildlife photos. Top to bottom and left to right: a weather vane with several small birds perched on it, a beaver swimming with its tongue sticking out, a black and white image of a duck, a Cormorant with its wings above its head just landing on the water, a hummingbird feeding from a cluster of pink flowers, and a Tree Swallow on a black fence.

Graced by the presence of the Gang-gang Gang once more. #birds
Photograph of an immature male Gang-gang Cockatoo attempting to right itself on a bare branch. One foot is raised and its wings are spread for balance. It is a small grey cockatoo with some of its bright red head/crest plumage. Its flight and tail feathers have light yellow bars, and its belly and undertail coverts are barred in yellow and orange.
Photograph of a different individual on the same branch from a different, tighter angle - from the belly up. This bird looks very similar but the barring on its belly is more vividly orange. It is looking at the viewer with its beak open - which could be interpreted as smiling or laughing, but in reality was because the bird was trying to cool down by panting on a hot day.

A female hooded merganser (Lophodytes cucullatus) at Tingley Beach in Albuquerque, on December 4, 2025. #nature #naturephotography #birds
A bird seen in profile, as it swims by on rippling pond water. The beak is narrow, and dull yellow with dark areas. The eye is dark. The crest is a warm brown, while the side of the head, the breast, and the visible flank are gray. The back and tail are black. The ripples in the water are mostly blue in the foreground, mostly brown (from dead leaves still on trees and bushes) in the background.

Silly me going for my dog walk without my camera. Luckily, I returned and the Long-eared Owl was still there 15 mins later. Unlucky for me, it flew off when I was 60 m away! #birds
