Oarfish Daily

Today's Oarfish comes from the Natural history of Victoria! This book was made by Frederick McCoy, and it contains figures and descriptions of the living species of all classes of the Victorian indigenous animals! #underwater #sealife #marine #fish #Oarfishdaily #marinelife #drawing
Oarfish is a long, snake like fish with long flowing pink frills. This is a diagram of one against a light yellow background.

Had a really nice time finding slugs today with @kokolea.bsky.social. Most of them were out of the water and looking blobby but still delightful. Here's a few: Thick Horned Northern Leopard Dorid Clown Hudson's Horned Dorids (maybe, probably Acanthodors at least) #nudibranch πŸ¦‘πŸ™
thick horned nudibranch exposed on a wall. It's got a bright pale blue line down its back and to its oral tentacles, bright orange markings on its face, and little brown lines through each cerata
leopard dorid clinging onto the wall, it's foot clearly stretched a bit from gravity pulling down on its body. It's gill ruffles are pulled in but gooey looking and the rest of its body has almost a wet suede look - very textural and lovely with its brown spots. It's surrounded by barnacles on the rock
Clown nudibranch looking a bit gloopy in a shallow pool with its face kinda smushed into the rocks. Still being its bright clown self though, orange frills and gills spread out even if collapsed over from lack of water to let them really spread as much as they can.
Two cuddling little dorids on a wall with a cornflake sort of texture. The bigger slug is yellow and the little one is white. Both clearly have a lot of fun features going on like little body spikes, rhinophores, and gills but they've been smoothed back down as if they'd used way too much hair gel.

Folly Cove (and many of the other sites around Cape Ann) had massive aggregations of sand lance. These fish are eaten by many species, so the predators are following them in. buff.ly/TnnffL8 #underwaterphotography #diving #underwater #underwaterworld #scuba #animals #fish #wideAngle #gopro πŸ“· πŸ¦‘

#OrcaFacts: Though many populations of Killer Whales travel through Scottish waters, there is a small unique individuals who call the Small Isles and Skye home. This pod, fondly referred to at the West Coast Community, have been seen preying on porpoises, dolphins, whales, and seals.

A weekend mystery... I'm not entirely sure what this is, other than being one of the weird and wonderful beasties that you meet on blackwater dives. My best guess is a siphonophore of some sort. Pic from Balayan Bay, Anilao #MarineLife #Invertebrates 🌿
A gelatinous critter. It has a more solid central core with what look like lobes attached to the surface of it. There are no obvious tentacles.

The queen conch is one of many protected species that bless us with their presence in Coral City. Today a queen conch hung out and grazed on algae with its elephant trunk-like proboscis while its googly eyes on long stalks peered out of its shell πŸ‘€πŸ˜πŸšπŸ‘‘ #coralcitycamera #miami #biscaynebay #coralcity
