The Motherland Monument in Kyiv was illuminated with the colors of the EU flag in an event attended by foreign diplomats, EU representatives, and Ukrainian authorities. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko stated the action symbolizes European support for Ukraine's fight for freedom and European values.
🇫🇮 FM Elina Valtonen: Ukraine should be integrated into NATO as quickly as possible. It's in our own interest. Ukraine has one of the strongest armies, a robust defense industry, and advanced modern technologies. Ukraine now holds the strongest cards, even in the American sense.
APPLEBAUM: Ukraine has drone technology that other people want. EU now able to guarantee funding for Ukraine. Ukraine has become a player in world politics and is valuable to other countries. I think that’s really flipped the narrative. Suddenly, it looks like Ukraine has cards.
It’s exhausting to see people sharing Putin’s quotes as if he ever said a word of truth. Moreover, most of these posts are stripped of context. When he said about being ready to meet Zelenskyy, he added to "sign documents," he isn't looking for a dialogue; he’s demanding a capitulation, as always.
Former Defense Secretary and CIA Director Leon Panetta: Biden should have been much tougher in providing the weapons that Ukraine needed. Frankly, we should have given them much more sophisticated weaponry that they were asking for in order to be able to go after Russia.
Just sent out my free weekend update. A fascinating week which revealed alot about the state of the war. Putin had to beg Trump to beg Zelensky to be allowed to hold Russia's Victory Day Parade. Then, it seems, Putin turned around and humiliated Trump-of course. open.substack.com/pub/phillips...
TAYLOR: Ukraine made it clear in Iran war that it has real value to bring to United States and allies. Ukrainians know how to defend against drones, and providing knowledge and expertise. Ukraine's making it very clear which side it’s on, and United States should recognize that.
REP. MIKE LEVIN: Most members of Congress continue to stand with Ukraine. Your sovereign nation was attacked by Putin. We do not stand with Putin. Vice President does not speak for all Americans, for members of Congress across ideological spectrum, and does not speak for me.
Ukraine’s Apachi drone battalion of the 81st Airmobile Brigade repelled a Russian motorcycle assault on the Sloviansk axis, destroying a 16-bike column. Commander Oleksandr Denysov said every motorcycle was destroyed and every attacker killed before reaching the line. #Ukraine
🤬 Today, on a day of silence, Russians hit a vehicle belonging to the emergency services of JSC “DONETSKOBLGAS” in Druzhkivka, Donetsk Oblast. The workers were on their way to respond to a call after a previous shelling. The people jumped out of the vehicle at the last moment.
Rubio consistently frames criticism of Nato in a way that explains the U.S. benefit of being in Nato. It's Russia style communication now — these people cannot tell the czar directly what they think, so they frame public statements as ostensibly support but with an injected message to the leader.
O’BRIEN: Ukrainians changed the way they’re fighting. Their front line is now manned overwhelmingly by equipment, machinery, millions of drones. That line protecting their own army, reducing casualties, saving their soldiers’ lives. Ukrainians letting drones and unmanned vehicles do the fighting.
1/ If yesterday's Victory Day parade had been a true reflection of Russia's frontline army as it is now, it would have been a chaotic display of battered vehicles, motorbikes, exhausted soldiers on crutches, and donkeys. A Russian warblogger imagines how it could have been. ⬇️
The hypothesis that last summers telecom sabotage campaign in south Sweden was in fact aimed at dual use military installations is strengthened. Masts facing southeastern Baltic and Kaliningrad were hit. Finland is now implementing the tech. It is not public whether SE uses it.
😡 Russia violated the ceasefire again: Kharkiv — At night, the Russians hit a nine-story building in Kharkiv with a drone. Five people were injured, including two 8-year-old boys. Zaporizhzhia — 780 Russian strikes on 33 settlements. One person died, three more were injured.
I wouldn't make too much of this. Maybe he realizes things are not going well for Ru, maybe not. But note that this diplomatic resolution talk is devoid of details. I'd bet a lot of money he still envisions an outcome that's both completely disconnected from reality and unacceptable for Ukraine.
1/ With Donald Trump ("our Trumpushka") increasingly seen as irrelevant to the war in Ukraine, Russian warbloggers are increasingly calling for "demonstrative strikes" on the EU, UK and Canada to force them to cease support for Ukraine and negotiate a peace settlement. ⬇️
A ceasefire on the current frontlines creates a huge problem for Putin: he hasn’t achieved any of his original invasion goals. After 4 years of war, Ukraine still stands, NATO is larger, Russia has lost Black Sea dominance, and Moscow has annexed more territory than it can realistically secure.
🔥🚂 ATESH partisans conducted a successful sabotage operation on a railway section in Lipetsk region. ❗️During the mission, underground fighters destroyed a freight electric locomotive used by the occupiers to transport military equipment. Read more 👀 theukrainianreview.info/atesh-partis...
According to OSINT analysis, another air defense ring is being built around Moscow. Number of air defense systems protecting Moscow now exceeded 100 units since 2023. Additionally, Putin’s residence in Valdai has been blurred on Yandex Maps. Kremlin gargoyle seems very afraid.
On Mother's Day, please spare a thought for Ukrainian mothers. They fight, rescue, care, love, shield — all under the russian bombs and missiles. In Ukraine, being a mother means making impossible choices every single day. Photo after the russian attack on children's hospital Okhmatdyt in 2024.
🇺🇦🙏 The most important thing is not to forget about the missing people and those who are still in captivity. Every day, there kills, and our guys are really dying, not having waited for an exchange. #NoPeaceWithoutJustice Read more 👀 theukrainianreview.info/mission-surv...
HODGES: Unfortunately, I don’t see current U.S. administration doing anything to help Ukraine. They constantly take Kremlin’s side. They still echo Kremlin talking points, which is unbelievable to me. Vance brags that their proudest accomplishment was stopping aid to Ukraine.
Oh wow. So now , once Putin had his sorry parade in Moscow, he’s blaming Ukraine for ‘not being ready’ for POWs exchange , and that basically - there is no exchange. While this was the very reason Ukraine agreed not to attack his sorry little parade in the first place .
1/ A new military treaty between Russia and Nicaragua has gone into force, enabling Russia to base troops, special forces, and surveillance facilities in the Central American country. However, warns a warblogger, it's now potentially Russia's last strongpoint in the Americas. ⬇️
17yo Oleksandr & 14yo Rostyslav rushed to help ppl after russia's deadly KAB attack in Zaporizhzhia on May 5 which claimed 12 lives. The boys had taken first aid courses and had carried tourniquets ever since. Alongside adults, they helped assist victims until first responders arrived. 📸: Sho_Tam_
Ukraine developed an autonomous AI turret that has proven to be highly effective against Russian fiberoptic drones which are immune to electronic warfare. The system autonomously tracks targets and their trajectories. The operator presses a button to confirm engagement.
