"We're telling 20 year olds to worry about superannuation they won't get until 2065. "This report is saying there are catastrophic risks coming right now, way before you need your super." 🔊 Executive Director Richard Denniss at the Senate Environment Committee @richarddenniss.bsky.social #auspol
Australia Institute polling shows that 54% of Australians want a more independent foreign policy over a closer alliance with the US. “This is a really rare opportunity that Trump is giving us, to collectively rethink our security and our safety.” - Emma Shortis @emmashortis.bsky.social #auspol
RIP #RobertRedford. This was his best. Inspiration to all of us journalists whose mission is holding truth to power. Still such an important message on the corrosion of democracy. Solidarity to my colleague John Lyons, preparing a story on the current climate for our program #4Corners. #journalism
“To say that I care about your security & actually do the very thing that’s actually threatening our security, it does not make sense. We cannot be that stupid,” – Anote Tong, fmr president of Kiribati. Pacific leaders see through the rhetoric & are furious about Australia's fossil fuel expansion.
President Trump's scorn for highly respected Australian journalist John Lyons was followed up by an official White House X account branding him a "foreign fake news loser". Our research shows Australians want a more independent foreign policy. #auspol australiainstitute.org.au/post/poll-in...
Disasters are multiplying & the costs are set to skyrocket. The ADF is already stretched, & shouldn't be asked to carry this burden. We need to decide who pays for disaster relief: ordinary Australians, or the fossil fuel industry fuelling the damage? www.abc.net.au/news/2025-09...
Anyone surprised at the horrendous takes from centrists like Klein should read Orwell’s 1940 review of the Mein Kampf reprint - where he makes the point that the original version, printed one year before, was greeted sympathetically and cast Hitler as ‘kindly a light as possible’
The Australian Government's (bad) excuse for more gas? So that the world will use less coal...🤨 So why is the Australian Government...also approving new coal mines!? 🔊 Executive Director Richard Denniss appearing at the Senate Environment Committee @richarddenniss.bsky.social #auspol
Dear AUS PM @albomp.bsky.social cc @senatorwong.bsky.social The UN commission of inquiry has concluded that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza. Will you expel the Israeli Ambassador now? Will you sanction Israel now? Or will we just hear more empty words? #auspol #IsraeliTerrorism #GazaGenocide
The costs of climate damages are rising and local government revenue isn’t keeping up. ‘It’s the fossil fuel companies that are causing climate change that should be paying for some of the damage.” - Rod Campbell, Research Director @rodcampbell.bsky.social #auspol
The Albanese Govt thinks providing Pacific island nations with funds to address the impacts of Climate Change (incl. sea level rises) somehow excuses our profiteering from causing the catastrophe by our fossil fuel sales. It's such an insulting colonialist altitude. #auspol #ClimateChange
Opposition Home Affairs spokesman Andrew Hastie says he would quit the Coalition frontbench if the Liberals remain committed to a net zero by 2050 policy. Does he realise nobody cares what the Coalition does? Nobody but the right wing media is listening to them. #auspol #ClimateChange #NetZero
“I can’t stress enough the number of variables that just aren’t included. This is a minimum cost,” – Richard Denniss at estimates re National Climate Risk Assessment. “What you see in that report is the best-case scenario.” via @themandarin.bsky.social ▶️ australiainstitute.org.au/post/devasta...
If you agree with the UN Commission of Inquiry's conclusion that Israel IS committing genocide in Gaza, and you want the Aus Govt to act, I encourage you to sign the @jewishcouncilau.bsky.social petition to sanction Israel now: www.jewishcouncil.com.au/2025/09/peti... #SanctionIsrael #auspol
"Political violence is a virus,” Klein noted. This assertion is true. It is also at odds with Kirk’s own words. It’s not that Kirk merely, as Klein put it, “defended the Second Amendment”—it’s that Kirk endorsed hurting people to advance his preferred policy outcomes." Yep
The American celebrities praising Charlie Kirk (with the caveat "I didn't always agree with him") is giving off strong Nazi collaborator vibes. Some people will sacrifice their principles to stay on the good side of the Trump regime. 🙄 #USPolitics #CharlieKirk #DonaldTrump
Jimmy Barnes & nearly 40 other artists have joined the call to ditch the proposed cuts at the ANU School of Music. This joins a long list of controversies in Australia's unis recently. It's a result of running unis like a business, explained Richard Dennis: www.canberratimes.com.au/story/905472...
Robert Redford reminds me that IMO the first 20 minutes or so flashback in The Way We Were might be my favourite 20min in cinema. It's such excellent story telling. The rest of the film remains very good (could have been great had Pollack listened to Barbra), but that flashback is perfect.
This is a long interview with Catherine Connolly, but well worth listening to in its entirety, not least for the point at which she describes Irish as part of the solution to climate change, given that there is no false distinction between humanity and nature in the Irish language. #SpéirGorm

Surprisingly, I couldn’t track down a copy, new or used, of Michael Cronin’s “An Ghaeilge agus an Éiceolaíocht” (2019) on any of my usual online sites, be it in Ireland or abroad. Thankfully, An Siopa Leabhar came to my rescue though! #SpéirGorm www.siopaleabhar.com
