Illinois is among the best for K-12 education in the nation. Only one state outpaced us in 8th-grade reading scores, and only four outpaced us in math. Weāve also achieved the highest university graduation rate in 15 years. It's a testament to what Illinoisans can achieve.
Why canāt Trump ever just take the win? SCOTUS threw him a life jacket and heād rather drown in a sea of tariffs. The American people have been paying an extra 1K and are owed a refund. Throw in the abysmal Q4 GDP growth and this economy is not where the GOP needs it to be to win the midterms.
As Trump accelerates mass detention and tramples over due process, I'm announcing a new philanthropic collaboration and ramping up mutual aid support to help California nonprofits connect families with basic needs and essential services. We will always stand by our communities.
San Quentin, once California's most notorious prison, is now a national model for rehabilitation and second chances. And with innovative programs reducing violent crime in the Golden State, the California Model is proving that public safety and rehabilitation go hand-in-hand.
President Donald Trump calling Supreme Court justices ālapdogs,ā āunpatriotic,ā and accusing them of foreign influence simply for upholding the law is outrageous. Itās simple: the tariffs are illegal. The chaos before and after this decision rests solely with him.

What does Trump do after the Supreme Court strikes down his massive tax increase? He acts like a crybaby and imposes temporary tariffs of 10% that will expire in 150 days. Democrats will kill the temporary tariffs when they expire. Republicans support tariffs. November is coming.
Tourism is down in the U.S. under Trump, while globally it is up. Kristi Noem turned DHS into something that is FUBAR and tourists are scared to come. A British woman was shackled and slept on floor of cell for six weeks even though she had a valid visa. Noem must resign.
President Trump's "war on the rule of law" and "disrespect and disdain for the constitution" are "frightening," says @judgeluttig.bsky.social. But he is confident that "Americans are going to answer the call from our founders and ancestors to defend the United States of America." #Velshi
Trump's new 15 percent tariff under Section 122 lasts only 150 days. Then it requires congressional approval to be extended. So, you know, Congress will have to vote to extend it...just a few months before the November midterms. Surely all Dems will oppose...but so will some GOPers for sure.
The fact that he is just hurting American consumers, American businesses and the US economy not only does not matter to him, I think in the midst of a tantrum like this (and make no mistake, this is a tantrum), he probably sees it as a plus. He's angry at a world learning to say "no" to him.
Trump's tariffs were once illegal and a terrible idea from an economic perspective. Assuming he pursues new ones legally, they will just remain really bad economics...and the confusion he has wrought will destabilize the world trading system & hurt US credibility for many years to come.

Canada's former finance minister, @chrystia-freeland.bsky.social called the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling on tariffs āan opportunity for a resetā of trade relations. Political scholar @normornstein.bsky.social disagrees, calling tariffs āan obsession that has no rational basisā for President Trump.
Faith leaders have stepped up to resist Trump policies they say infringe on human rights. āWe have to be as vigilant as injustices,ā says Bishop William J. Barber II, president of the Repairers of the Breach and co-chair of the Poor Peopleās Campaign. āOur faith is called to be strong.ā #Velshi
It was an honor to receive an axe from St. Paul Professional Firefighters Local 21. I was surrounded by heroes who put their lives on the line everyday to help others. Iāll keep working to honor the memory of Mike Paidar and ensure our firefighters get the support they deserve.
Honored to campaign with the amazing Rep George Whitesides last week! He works hard every day on behalf of his constituents, and is fighting to reduce wildfire risk, improve our economy and address the cost of living emergency. You can help him here: www.georgewhitesides.com

The problem with NYT journalists doing analysis pieces is not dissimilar from some law professorsā academic work. When your professional needs are dependent on access or your networks put you in the middle of judges all the time, that analysis can be more iffy than search for truth focused.
