"What did you do today at work, babe?" asks the trooper's wife. "Well, hon, I stood outside the women's room telling ladies to prove to me they were born with vaginas before I let them pee." Not all fetishes are fascist, but all fascism is fetishistic. www.texastribune.org/2025/12/12/t...
Not a “good guy with a gun” — a brave soul who *took* a gun from a murdering fool who may imagine *he’s* the “good guy with a gun,” and then the real hero did not use it for more killing but *put the gun down.* Let’s put the fucking guns down. Every last idiot bang bang stick in the world.
Gen AI tools are not good sources for information during rapidly unfolding, novel events. Words associations aren't helpful for discovering ground truth. These tools are more likely to echo and contribute to the inherent uncertainty and ambiguity of crisis events.
The Trump admin’s beloved “journalist” Nick Sortor questions a survivor of the Parkland shooting, who posted about also living through the Brown shooting. Sortor is wanted by the state of Kentucky for evading probation in a case where he harassed a woman but attended a White House event recently.
If you’re wondering why anyone younger than 40 is done with both parties it’s because both parties have demanded children accept they may be blown apart with an ar during class all while telling them their is nothing they will do to stop it. The terror of the last two decades has been bipartisan.
John Podesta is a political consultant who co-founded a lobbying firm that raked in cash from corporations. Podesta has been in politics for decades. He watched as corps and the Supreme Court destroyed labor rights. He let it happen! He’s blaming “faculty” to deflect blame from HIMSELF. 1/
“It's the most unbelievable scene I've ever seen,” said New South Wales Premier Chris Minns. “A man walking up to a gunman who had fired on the community and single-handedly disarming him, putting his own life at risk to save the lives of countless other people.” people.com/hero-bystand...
Trump and the fascists are now openly threatening a civil war from the White House if they do not get their way. To the elected democrats who have capitulated with the fascists for decades because you were cowards the fascists are still going to try and kill you.
A far-right politician whose father was a Nazi will become Chile's next president, having run on anti-crime rhetoric. Whenever a politician says "crime," they are promising violence. It's a protection racket: the more state violence, the more poverty; the more poverty, the more cartel activity.
A man who heroically tackled and disarmed one of the Bondi Beach gunmen has been named. He is Ahmed al Ahmed, a 43-year-old Sydney local who owns a fruit shop in Sutherland. The father-of-two was shot twice during the unbelievable act. www.news.com.au/national/nsw...
When we started studying online rumoring during crises (~2013), we mostly focused on this type of rumor: accidental, but w/ potential for great harm. Except we anticipated origins in "unofficial" sources. The idea that rumors like these would be seeded by a sitting President never crossed our minds.
James and I are so different. He announces he’s “going out” then takes another 90 min to nap, get ready, use the washroom, find his keys, tell me 3 more times he’s going out and then finally leaves. I say I’m going out. And just as James asks “where to?” he hears the front door close.
just a reminder that antisemitism has been a part of Western culture for over a millennia and has a powerful influence on culture, social life, and politics. as with other forms of oppression, like misogyny and racism, open violence is just an explicit expression of more widespread attitudes.
Right and left wing grifter accounts on X are all sharing photos of an innocent guy bc his name matches the POI in the Brown shooting and he also has a military history. It's 100% not the right guy, but once again an innocent person's face is all over accused of crimes bc people think just anyone/
Over on Twitter, I’ve tagged CBP with this video and a request: “Please @CBP I know you read the tweets of all the journalists on the ground covering you guys. Someone tell the cameraman I desperately want to chat with him next time I'm in New Orleans (or in the next city).”
Every movie, book, murder ballad villain: "Somebody else *made* me do it." Too many decent people, when confronted w/ murderers murdering claiming it's for a good cause: "Somebody else made them do it." Murder=murder=murder. Don't think you're gonna "own" me w/ a "what-about"; murder=murder.
James: I have a new follower who is following you. Me: Oh? James: St. Mary Magdalene? Really??? Someone is actually pretending to be Mary Magdalene???? Me: Do I pretend to be St. John the Baptist? James: Huh? (Looks again) Oh. It’s a church. Yeah, that makes more sense. Reader, I married him.
30 years ago, when I was first starting in “journalism”—I wouldn’t call the narrative nonfiction I wanted to make that for another 10 yrs—I read Mailer’s Executioner’s Song. Now, after 3 decades of the work, I’m rereading, and my o my it is a devastating marvel. I know of nothing like it.
See, as a British Jew I suspect it's the opposite. I totally learned in school (wrongly!) that "Chanukah" is the better spelling and "Hanukkah" was American goyishe. False, but false in a very Jewish way. And plenty of families still give real gelt, though lots give chocolate gelt or gifts intead
The Right constantly project their own authoritarianism onto those they hate in order to justify it. They, of course, say the same about us. That's why it's crucial to remember that politics has content as well as form, and facts cut through rhetoric. A mirror and a reflection are not the same thing
