While in detention, Khalil âhosted âoffice hoursâ for fellow immigrant detainees, leaning on his past experience working at a British embassy in Beirut to help others organize paperwork and find translators for their cases.â 'Iâm pretty good at bureaucracy,â Khalil said.â
They're doing it under the guise of searching for healthcare fraud, so they're intimidating providers and circumventing HIPAA As usual, they've chosen a test case they think Dems will be too cowardly to challenge. This WILL be used against abortion providers if they get away with it here
Though much remains uncertain (e.g. outcomes of lawsuits re: canceled grants), it is clear that U.S. gov funding for science â especially science that intersects w/ concerns about human flourishing â is going to be significantly diminished in coming years. Here are a few things we can do to help:
It is a very good time to be interrogating where your life (including your community) is supported by government, and thinking about what you will do if (when) that support fails. Because the people in charge are intent on rigging it so these support structures fail in the coming months and years.
See, I think this is exactly the reason kids need to learn file systems, both analog and digital. Creative knowledge work isn't just knowing how to FIND information, it's understanding how to organize and sort & reconstitute information in new ways. Systematic categorization is a key part of that.
The constitution is a social construct like law and like the norms we had taken for granted. Fascism doesnât care about law or constitutionality it is a steam roller that destroys social norms and the agreements that underpin democracy and society. The constitution doesnât matter to fascists.
The bigger issue here is that phones and touchscreen devices in general encourage informational passivity. They invite you to consume, not to do research & creative knowledge work (breaking down informational sources, combining disparate pieces of info from different sources, reconstituting)
I am having a very hard time managing my fury listening to Gisele Fetterman doing a media circuit on a book tour for a book about a politics of "tenderness." She's clearly a kind-hearted person but it tries my patience hearing her talk about tenderness while partnered with a genocide advocate
Remember when the loudest liberals on this app decided it was easier to try and attack those of us on the academic and research side of countering fascism as âuneducatedâ or âreactionaryâ when we pointed out the Democratic Party at the highest levels has been radicalized towards fascism⌠WhelpâŚ
PUP ALERT: My friend had been planning on fostering this sweetie for a while, but her forever dog is not having it and Lucie is in immediate need of a new home, but shelters are full up. The friend will drive this dog out of state if it means a loving placement. www.adoptapet.com/pet/45141712...
Iran still has the capacity to build a bomb, and is now even more motivated to do so The Houthis aren't standing down, but are actively escalating Gaza ceasefire still a long way off Russia ramping up attacks on Ukraine Trump's foreign policy record really is a complete catastrophe.
âOn Thursday, his lawyers filed a claim for $20 million in damages against the Trump admin, alleging Khalil was falsely imprisoned, maliciously prosecuted and smeared as an antisemite as the government sought to deport him over his prominent role in campus protests.â apnews.com/article/mahm...
These images and video coming out of California are a view of the republicans fascist advance and its unfolding war against America. Anyone claiming we can beat this through non violence and voting alone is lying. The republicans are at war against us and people need to act like it.
Yes, they literally are trying to kill as much of the population as they can. It is a pro eugenics social Darwinist movement that sees America as âmindless eatersâ that must be âculledâ so the strongest can survive. MAHA and the rights plan is literal autogenocide and social murder at scale
I used to be incredibly skeptical of postponing tech for kids until I started thinking about how much of user interface operates based on analog world metaphor. I'm still not opposed to SOME tech for kids, but more and more I think they need early or simultaneous exposure to those analog systems.
Many liberals have drank the far-right cool aid and think that âthe peopleâ want draconian anti-immigration policies. They donât! In fact, they hate them. High time to break-out of this Stockholm syndrome and develop constructive and realistic immigration policies.
The DOJ claimed it released 11 hours of âfull rawâ footage from a camera near Epsteinâs prison cell the night before he was found dead. But @dmehro.bsky.social discovered the footage was modified, likely using Adobe software and came from at least two source clips www.wired.com/story/metada...

Fitness hack: reach your step goals daily by doing this one thing - forget something. Always be so hurried and rushed that you inevitably forget your phone, your wallet, your toddlerâŚanything that will make you have to double back, thereby increasing your step count with ease! Youâre welcome.
This is absolutely not out of control itâs what they told you they were doing and experts and others within academia spent months explaining was the goal. This is what fascism is America is now a fascist country this is what control looks like under fascism: power and its use of terror.
5+ months after we released research hypothesizing that the pro-Russia Pravda network was grooming LLMs to spit out propaganda, even "reasoning" models are still citing the network. Proud to publish this piece with AI critic @garymarcus.bsky.social! americansunlight.substack.com/p/bad-actors...
Benedictine spirituality has deeply formed my faith and practice of prayer. I owe a great deal to the religious orders and theologians - all spiritual descendants, in one way or another - of St. Benedict, patron of Europe and father of Western monasticism. So Happy Feast of St. Benedict. đđť
Read this entire thread. There's lots of legal wrangling in here, but it's extraordinary. Abrego Garcia, who was deported to El Salvador and tortured, is seeking assurances he won't be kidnapped and deported again, with zero due process, if released from prison. The state won't commit to that.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) canceled a $3 million grant intended to ensure "last mile" communicationsâvital for preventing tragedies like those in Texas, where over 100 people died and more than 170 remain missing. Why was this done? talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/dhs-...
I've just listened to the first episode of this, which is free to listen in the QAA podcast's regular feed. Like all of Liv's work, it's fascinating, well-researched and thoughtful, and I'm so happy she's got an opportunity to go deep on this important topic. Go check it out and subscribe for more!
I get the impression that a lot of the physical stuff kids used to use (and sort, and clean up) at school has been replaced by digital simulacra that simply vanish into the ether when you're done. It takes sustained adult direction to learn clean up, and that's in short supply when the ratio's 1:30
