Remarkable. MSNC: "I want to reiterate this has been 100% peaceful." Seconds later, LA County sheriffs start firing on the crowd. Yet again, "law enforcement" deliberately escalated.

LAPD and LA Sheriffs tried to prevent two large protests from joining together in downtown and both departments ended up hitting EACH OTHER with impact munitions from across the same interesection.

Before the cops in LA started escalating things for no reason it was funny how my main takeaway was how much people were looking out for each other in really helpful ways. I’ve never seen so many people with carts giving away free water, sunscreen, snacks, and masks to total strangers.

#AOC: They have released chaos in LA by violently raiding and ripping apart peaceful public spaces and now they are tackling and arresting US sitting members of Congress while going on the record and lying about what happened. This is an out of control agency.

Anyone who has ever lived in LA county will not be surprised it was the sheriff's department that escalated

This hits hard! An L.A. protest in the 1930s, pushing back against illegal immigration raids. During the Great Depression, thousands of Mexican immigrants and their U.S.-born kids were deported. Racism and economic fear drove it then, just like now.
Black-and-white photo of a woman protesting on a city sidewalk in 1930s Los Angeles. She holds a sign that reads, “STOP ILLEGAL RAIDS BY IMMIGRATION DEPT.” A vintage car loaded with sacks is parked nearby, and several men stand in front of a store watching her pass.

MSNBC reporter in gas mask in Los Angeles: I think it was Sheriffs deploying CS gas, tear gas, pepper spray, and flash bang grenades in large numbers. Mounted units pushing against protesters.., every single gathering I saw today was 100% peaceful

Peaceful protests all day until, right on cue, LAPD escalates with flash-bangs and tear gas so Trump can get his live “riot” visual for his live speech.

Everything was peaceful in downtown LA until the cops attacked, with horses, flash bang grenades, rubber bullets, and tear gas, But it won’t be reported like that.

Found this @laist.com piece interviewing graduating seniors in LA—some of whom have family members afraid of attending ceremonies right now—to be quite moving. laist.com/news/educati...
As we marched through our local streets, we made our voices heard,” she said. “We will be remembered as the class that made a difference. A class that stood up for what we believe in, who spoke up for our parents and grandparents when they were told they didn't have a voice. We were united not only by our culture, but by our shared belief that education can help us fight for justice and freedom. I'm incredibly proud to call myself a member of this class.”

Atop their white robes, several of her classmates wore stoles resembling the flags of countries their families hail from. Many of their caps also bore the same message: “Para mis padres” — “For my parents.”

Watching the streets of east side LA get emptier and whiter this week has been chilling. This is a city of immigrants and it feels so hollow when they can’t participate in public life without fear
