But wait, what about encryption? Services like Signal can claim they don't have knowledge or cannot remove content they can't access because of their encryption mechanisms. That's not going to fly. No, this fully discourages the use of encryption tools (so much for privacy I guess).

If the risk is FTC action and prison time vs accidentally removing legitimate content or simply turning off encryption....I don't care what it is, that content is coming down (just like we already see with RTBF / DMCA requests). And encryption will be no more.

If I'm advising major social media companies having to deal with this new law, I'm telling them to take it all down. Don't even bother trying to line draw over what is / isn't intimate imagery. You don't have time. Hell, the law even immunizes companies for removing legit content...so why not?

As the Verge article put it. This isn't a law, it's a weapon. And beyond that, it's another massive own goal for every single Dem that voted for it. Congrats, they played you again.

Now hand this law to the Trump Administration, the same people who see the First Amendment as optional, and watch it become yet another tool to remove speech they don't like, break encryption and spy on private communications, all under the guise of protecting victims.
