now reading about the Incredible String Band. Potentially very bleak Wikipedia sentence: "Her whereabouts have been publicly unknown since 1986, when she was last seen hitchhiking across the Arizona desert in the U.S."

“The contentions in Martin’s letter echoed a report published in March by the Anti-Defamation League … alleging ‘widespread antisemitic and anti-Israel bias on Wikipedia.’“ There is *nothing* Zionists won’t burn down for the sake of their sick project.

Ed Martin's latest target: Wikipedia. The interim U.S. attorney and pro-Trump bulldog has sent a letter seeming to threaten the Wikimedia Foundation's tax-exempt status over allegations that it is "spreading propaganda." Our story: www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2...

Three young women sitting next to me in the subway, speaking a language I couldn't identify. Lots of velar fricatives. Was it Arabic? I worked up the nerve to ask them and it turned out to be Georgian. Wikipedia says:
No claimed genetic links between the Kartvelian languages and any other language family in the world are accepted in mainstream linguistics. Among the Kartvelian languages, Georgian is most closely related to the so-called Zan languages (Megrelian and Laz); glottochronological studies indicate that it split from the latter approximately 2700 years ago. Svan is a more distant relative that split off much earlier, perhaps 4000 years ago.

Back when people said “dont use wikipedia as a source,” its citations sucked. You didnt know where any info came from or if it was any good. Wikipedia then spent decades improving the quality and clarity of its sourcing. What LLM can provide clear and accurate attributions of its claims?
Skeet with author name and pic chopped off: “Some of the anti-Al stuff feels a bit like when people would say "don't use Wikipedia as a source." It's just like anything else, a piece of information that you weigh against multiple sources and your own understanding of its likely failure modes”

Was looking up the Wikipedia article for Mayday to make a May Day joke but it turns out that there is an alternative official call for help And that call is "pan-pan"

~ TRUMP’S DUMP ON WIKIPEDIA Why is Moron Don suddenly upset with Wikipedia? Not a tough question, just read the entire Wiki profile of Fred Trump, Moron Don’s Nepo-daddy. READ WIKI LINK to reveal Moron Don’s business acumen is a NEPO-VENEER—not success based on intelligence, experience, or MERIT.

Want to help shape the world’s knowledge? Wikidata is the backbone of structured knowledge on Wikimedia projects, linking facts and data across Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, and beyond. But how does it work? 🧵⬇️ (1/4)
A person wearing glasses and wireless earbuds is typing on a laptop at a colorful table covered in fabric. Behind them is a cluttered shelf stacked with books and various items in a room with plain, white walls. Text says: Wikidata is a free, open knowledge base that connects and structures knowledge across Wikimedia projects. It is a powerful tool for organizing information, ensuring consistency, and enabling global collaboration.

Currently, the Wikimedia Foundation’s nonprofit status is being questioned by a D.C. U.S. attorney. Wikipedia is an online encyclopedia I read and use a lot. It should remain a nonprofit to benefit people and give them free access to information. I'm donating to support their efforts.

I wouldn’t consider myself a regular Wikipedian but I do edit from time to time. I’m still proud of my edits on some pages that are still intact a decade later. If Trump makes Wikipedia disappear, I am not kidding when I say I am *done* with the internet.

Sir Isaac Isaacs, after whom Mark Dreyfus KC's electorate is named, was Australia's first Jewish High Court Justice, the first Jewish Chief Justice of Australia and also the first Jewish Governor-General of Australia. He was a strong Anti-Zionist. (Wikipedia)
