Face the facts here. Republicans aren’t serious about health care. Republicans have never been serious about health care. They have no plan. Not even a ‘concept of a plan.’ All they know is what they’re against: Medicare, Medicaid and Affordable Care.

There is a truth that every president learns the hard way about health care: You can build on what people already have, but you can't take anything away, even if people think it's crappy. (This is why Medicare for All will be nearly impossible to pass).

The consequences for vulnerable people would have been catastrophic, so I'm not saying this in a wistful sense. But I am really curious how bad 2018 would have been for the GOP if McCain had not voted no.

Among VA enrollees in New York State, most emergency department visits were financed by non-VA payers, such as Medicare and private insurance, and thus remain invisible to VA care teams. ja.ma/4q3ZWP3
A stacked bar graph shows the percentage of ED visits by payer type across age groups (18-44, 45-64, >=65). VA direct care is a significant payer for younger groups, while Medicare dominates for those 65 and older.
