Whether it's Democrats putting flyers on Chris Cillizza’s Tesla or Republicans assassinating Democratic lawmakers, it's time for both sides to turn down the temperature.

Write flat tests. No "describe", no scenario nesting, no beforeEach/afterEach hooks (as a rule). Each test case is self-contained, listing all the setup it needs. Use Symbol.dispose for reliable cleanup. Use granular test cases. ☝️ These things will make your tests shine.

Handwoven and dyed with natural pigments at the Ruskin museum, Sheffield
Molten Blanket

2024

Designed, warped and woven by Jimmy Baxter yan dyed by Brantwood Woolcraft Students (using Madder, Cutch, Turmeric, Onion)

This blanket was produced by Jimmy Baxter a student at Brantwood Specialist School. It was naturally dyed with plants grown by the students.

The work is based on the colours generated when metal is heated up, and Jimmy was really pleased to make this connection with Sheffield's metalworking history. He also likes that the purple toned yam looks like gems, which connects with the wider Ruskin collection.

Jimmy says:

The illuminating colours contrast and blend together, like liquefied moiten metal being poured, it reminds me of the Big Melt at Magna, so I decided to call it Molten Blanket

Some colours blend together nicely, some colours have a sharpness, it's like they are sharp, and when you put them together it's Ske sweet and sour a nice sweet and sour-and they mould together

Okay hold on, did the Army buy a bunch of retro uniforms for the whole Band of Brothers throwback? They literally played the theme song from the HBO show

18) This is a table of authors by post types. (A wonky number, right?) So what makes this interesting is that 5,484 more accounts shared a post that mentioned #NoKings. (cc: @mcuban.bsky.social)

(today is a good reminder that nothing is harder to ignore or bury than millions of actual people in the actual streets)

how protest movements finally lost social media nymag.com/intelligence...

This sort of narrative role-swap isn't new. For all the attention Twitter got as a factor in the 2011 Egyptian revolution — a story embraced by the company's leadership
- the story of social media's role in Egypt's politics since has mostly been one of suppression, surveillance, and harassment. An American version of this story has been taking shape for a while. The most significant factor isn't really about tech - it's that the current administration is proudly hostile to protest and has cited social-media posts as thin pretexts for no-process arrests and deportations. An administration that both routinely threatens activists with imprisonment, deportation, or worse is more than enough reason for activists to regroup in spaces where privacy can be maintained, not just traded for attention.
But social media really has been transformed, too, in ways both explicitly ideological and technical. Twitter, the platform people are most often referring to when they talk about these things, is owned by Elon Musk, who bought the platform with the explicit goal of disempowering its "woke" users and has more than accomplished his goal. Meta is still run by former BLM supporter Mark Zuckerberg, who more recently embraced Trump and pivoted to military contracting. TikTok, which is legally banned, is still online because the Trump administration promised not to enforce the law under vague and suggestive circumstances. Before its legal ban, TikTok's rise set in motion industry trends that would alter social media's relationship to activism in material ways. Meta, X, and Google reoriented their platforms around TikTok-style algorithmic video feeds, which relied less on users following one another and more on black-box per-user recommendations.
