"Did you know the Rocketeer's girlfriend is a real person?" was a common bit of comics trivia for years; there was even a decade-plus alt-fashion trend of her exact haircut, "Bettie Bangs." The Rocketeer was a significant catalyst for that, and helped lead to her eventual rediscovery in the 1990s.

Dave Stevens, the creator of The Rocketeer, was an unambiguous Bettie Page superfan; in the comic, a Bettie lookalike was the girlfriend of the Rocketeer's civilian identity, Cliff Secord.
And back then, no one actually knew what had happened to Bettie, post-pinup career. It was a mystery!
