📍 “Data-removal companies that specialize in taking down personal information online could offer free or discounted plans to federal employees who are being harassed or at risk of harassment. “

Not exactly. Bsky's infrastructure is more top-heavy and doesn't scale down the way Mastodon's does. You can run your own Personal Data Server (PDS), your posts and followers, and connect it to a Relay. Operating your own relay is probably too expensive for users and small orgs to do on their own.

There are a lot of people posting their celebrity "birthday twin" – a celeb born the same day as you. I keep hearing in my head "can you confirm your date of birth?", whenever I'm calling a doctor or similar, to prove I'm me. ...I think I won't play this one. It's hard to keep personal data safe!

Maybe, but it is a good case to debate the limits that should be put on content providers, including how they use your data. Sites are free because they make big bucks off your personal information. That info is going to come back and hurt people in the age of surveillance

I've been laughing at some responses on Tiktok. My favorite one is this girl "sending" a care package of her personal data to her Chinese spy. What did it for me was her putting in a DNA swab i . Then this other girl saying she'll just buy directly from China and cut out the middle man.

Then you could choose not to use the app. There’s nothing that prevents Zuckerberg from selling your data to anyone he wants. If this was about data protection they wouldn’t have killed the bill that would have impacted Meta and X

The issue that the Chinese gov’t has access to your personal information and could use it against so. Of course so does Google’ Meta, Amazon, X and online companies know so much about you it is scary. Like Europe, we should be able to keep our information private

I don't much care either but I'm conscious of how others can misuse personal information.

Semifinished line art of Starscream questioning, "Can you BELIEVE him? Hmph, expecting me to do all of that?" A person off-camera replies, "He's our boss, y'know?" Starscream claps back with, "Okay, and?"
Art of Starscream attempting to hide that he's sending your personal data to Megatron. Starscream's dialogue reads, "Huh, what's that? N-Nothing's behind me! Just keep staring at my thighs."

If FB was owned by a Singapore parent co. that had a CCP committee embedded in its Beijing HQ, a parent co. that was subject to PRC law requiring it to turn over reams of personal data harvested from hundreds of millions of U.S. FB users, then FACAA might apply to FB.

No image - just these words:

In retrospect, it might have been a mistake to give Facebook all of my personal information and exchange for saying what my high school friends eat for dinner.

Today I am encountering accounts that I am pretty sure are bimbots in disguise. Attractive women with plenty of reposts and no personal information beyond the most anodyne. Not OBVIOUS Bimbots in other words so I don't know whether to follow back or report. Anyone else seeing this?

EXACTLY! Apple is tracking everone and has for over a decade, they openly admit it. But it's OK if AMERICAN companies sell your personal information for profit, because CAPITALISM. The double standard is ridiculous. It's part of controlling the populace. US is just mad China did social scores first.

Meta being creepy with not only your personal data (location, web history, dm's, etc) but with your real life images instead. There needs to be stricter laws that companies have to follow to stop ai feeding without user permission.

Instagram is now randomly showing users AI-generated images of themselves “Used Meta AI to edit a selfie, now Instagram is using my face on ads targeted at me" (via 404 Media)
