Nostalgia is not only the effect of displacement, it's also the result of how they are welcomed. In a comparative study of New York, Barcelona & Paris, Castañeda suggested that immigrants have different feelings of belonging according to the spatial disposition & politics of the city where they live

Interesting pattern over the last several years that seems to be continued in this letter - it is the comparative politics scholars and those more directly engaged with public policy who are raising the alarms. Political scientists specializing in American politics are relatively quiet.

Not an IR/comparative politics guy. Are gestures towards Palestinian statehood from Israel’s sponsors a meaningful change, a cynical sop to public opinion (to buy time until Gaza is fully liquidated, b/c they can’t pretend that a “peace process” will magically save the day anymore), or somehow both?

Crazy events occasionally compel me to venture out of my usual cozy niche in comparative politics and into foreign policy ... And few recent events (at least in my world) have been quite so crazy as this nomination. theconversation.com/malay….

Malaysia confronts the realities of MAGA diplomacy and Trump’s brash ambassadorial pick

For decades, Malaysia and the US have enjoyed a mutually beneficial relationship. Could that be changing?
