big relief to see that we got what we were fighting for. it took many weeks of effort and advocacy from many regular people. there are a few who will rush to take credit all for themselves, but they are just trying to build their brand. the political pressure for this cake from the grassroots.

hi, folks! so, this is still a hideous bill for a ton of reasons, but it’s kinda vital to take small Ws when they come. i don’t think the gender-affirming care ban/sex definition shit would have come out without a ton of constituent pressure. if you called & wrote, it mattered. thank you. 🧵💜🏳️‍⚧️

Idk if you’re trolling here. If you’re not, might I suggest googling someone’s name before suggesting to them something they do for a living?

Yeah I remember in 2023 when Biden had OADS, a number of Afghan people who’d arrived since 2021 came out to help.

I’ve spoken to folks who say that in a strange way they miss the community they found along the way here. It’s truly a remarkable thing and one that really reinforced to me that without states and coercion and violence, people can care for one another

If there’s one thing I wish people understood, it’s how much migrants coming here care for one another. I’ve seen people carry a stranger’s child, share their last food with someone who they don’t share a language with, and spend all day building a shelter for someone else then sleep in the cold

First show where people left en masse one song into the headliner’s set. Planning for a Burial opened and I think most of the crowd were there to see them. Sad dad music that needed more amps to create a greater wall of sound.

I saw Mamleek this week with little familiarity of their music. It was, uh, challenging and frantic. The balaclavas and what I would call a screaming Tom Waits added to the unnerving experience.

Rep. Laura Friedman is joining Burbank Mayor Nikki Perez and LA City Councilmember Nithya Raman today to announce new federal legislation requiring ICE agents to show identification/their faces while highlighting "the impact of the Trump Administration's ongoing use of secret police tactics"
Congresswoman Friedman to Announce New Federal Legislation Requiring ICE Officers to Identify Themselves During Raids

On Tuesday, July 1, 2025, U.S. Congresswoman Laura Friedman (CA-30) will announce she is helping lead new federal legislation to improve the accountability of immigration enforcement agents and end ICE agents wearing masks to obscure their identity.

This announcement comes after an uptick in reports of masked, plainclothes, and unidentifiable agents conducting raids in neighborhoods, workplaces, and schools, which has stoked fear across the LA region, as immigration raids have risen in recent weeks. The masked raids have even led to 911 calls reporting kidnappings, diverting police resources.
Friedman will also highlight the impact of the Trump Administration’s ongoing use of secret police tactics and how it erodes public trust in local law enforcement and their ability to protect the public.

WHAT: Friedman to announce she is helping lead new federal legislation to end ICE officers wearing masks to obscure their identity during raids.

Just heard an ad for Databricks AI which cited three examples of ways their service is revolutionizing the world: *A receipt texted to your phone *A turn signal *A washing machine that knows how much detergent to use This bubble feels ready to burst

The shredding of humanities departments cuts particularly deep. My grad degree in English literature (not from this uni) absolutely made me a better thinker, writer, reader. Grounded me ethically and emotionally. In this moment, we need programs like this in order to celebrate humanity. A waste.

One of best public universities on one of the five most beautiful campuses in the country. Decimated.

As a nation we use to celebrate building great things, freeways, sky scrapers, rockets and universities. Now we celebrate the building of a barbaric concentration camp in a swamp.
