“The opinion of the College is that these deaths should be notified to the coroner, as due to the review processes involved, it is lawyers, not doctors, that are the most appropriate professionals to review these deaths” #coroner #assistedying

I very much dislike the idea of referring to patients as “clients” maybe I’m old school? Or just old? Why is this a thing now? Genuinely asking

Saying “quiet” is fine. N=8 RCTs, 42-506 shifts. 7/8 → no Δ in pt vol, admissions, calls (eg Go et al 3.54 vs 2.83 consults p=0.23; Geller vol 199.9 vs 203.8; Brookfield calls 144 vs 139). 1 Ortho RCT →↑admit (3.1 vs 1.7, p=0.04) but high bias. No actionable effect ∴ superstition unsupported.

Surgeons abandon stuff when it doesn’t work. Long term adoption of any device, technique or technology relies on accessible and reproducible benefits over existing things, almost every time day after day. That’s it. We have to be able to get it easily and it has to work.

Massive thanks to Dr Reidar Lystad & Prof Rhonda Orr for their informative session on concussion in adolescents. The webinar covered unique signs, return-to-learn, recovery strategies and communication tips. Thanks to all who joined us online and to Melissa Tan for facilitating.

Just filmed the intro to @collegeofsurgeons.bsky.social Code of Conduct training. Tackling high levels of sexual misconduct in surgery. Unfortunately I discovered I am incapable of speaking even simple words with a camera pointed at my face. So sad to learn I will not be a late blooming film star 🤐
I’m sat in the park learning my lines. I’m wrote it and memorised everything. Unfortunately the words would not come out of my mouth once a camera was pointed at my face. I lost the ability to say ‘prevalence’ and also ‘individual’ amongst other things…
