Interior view of the Chevelle SS I saw at the car show weekend before last. Owner definitely put a lot of work into it. Shot with a Canon Eos 5d Mk II and 35/1.4L #carphotography #canoncamera #carshow #classiccars #raleighphotographer

On a residential street in Moscow, Idaho in the US, somebody has carved a seat into a large tree stump. There's also a carving of a tree spirit face inside the backrest.

Just a drawing of Buckley on cardboard with crayons (2005) #drawing #crayons #doggo #tradart #illustration
Crayon drawing of a red shephard looking dog with a red bandana asleep on his side. Illustration is done on cardboard and there are echoes of the parallel line texture in how the space is filled. There are also lots of yellow, green, and blue scribbles and spots in the part of the background that serves as the bed he is laying on.

#Campfire I have a story to share. It is the story of this little girl whose passport picture you see here. Obviously, it is MY passport picture, taken in 1952 when I immigrated to Canada. My story is being shared in the alternate description. #EastCoastKin #MyRealName
Hello all
My name is Silke
It is a most unusual name in North America, but more commonly heard in Germany and the Netherlands. When I was born, my father wanted me to be called Sabine. My mother didn’t like the potential nickname that that would evoke. She was afraid I would be called Biene or Bienchen In English that would be Bee or Little Bee, but at that time, she had no idea that we would eventually emigrate from Germany. In fact, my given name probably ended up in worse nicknames in Canada than Bee would have been in Germany.
The combination of my unusual name and the fact that I was born in Germany made me a constant target for bullies. I hated my name.
The constant bullying made me a sombre child. It also made me a fearful child.

In grade 6, our teacher, Mr. Weeks thought it would be fun for us to learn the meanings of our names. Sadly, his big book of names did not include mine. He reassured me that that he had an even bigger book at home and that he would look up my name that evening.
I was ever so eager to see him the next day and could hardly wait to find out what my name meant. To my surprise and delight, he told this quiet little mouse that her name meant “keeper of the lions.“
I liked that name. it sounded brave. I tried to varying degrees of success to live up to that name.
Fast forward to my 41st year on earth. The subject of the meaning of names came up in my second University course. Yes, I started University just before my 40th birthday. When I told Dr. Erb what my name meant, he suppressed a chuckle. He suggested it was not a likely meaning given the fact that names that end in -ke and -je commonly came from around the North Sea, and that there would be little likelihood of lions living in that environment. He suggested that I check a book in the reference library. I was disappointed to find out that he was right and then realized that Mr. Weeks had done me a big favour. He had instilled a certain amount of pride in me.

History of JULY 1 1863: THE BATTLE OF GETTYSBURG BEGINS: The battle lasted 3 days & with over 50,000 casualties, would become the bloodiest conflict of the American Civil War. It's also widely thought to be the turning point with the Union emerging victorious. #history #OTD #civilwar #ushistory
A color drawing showing the chaotic scene of The Battle of Gettysburg in a PA field. It's illed with soldiers fighting on both sides (we see the red and blue uniforms), horses, with many men dead or wounded on the ground. There's a lot of musket smoke, and a few different spots with large plumes of cannon smoke in the distance.

Artist unknown.
Drawing is in the Public Domain.
