I just checked back, and it appears I never shared my praying mantis drawings here. I'm still mostly drawing moths after #mothmay, but wrote an article on one of New Zealand's more surprising invasive species, which led to me drawing praying mantises. #sciart

#MothMay got extended - I'm still drawing moths! Here's a couple of highlights from my article about the latest in lepidopteran fashion, as some of nature's most striking moths strut down the runway with flying colours. @loadofolbobbins.bsky.social #SciArt

I've continued drawing since I took part in #MothMay, and while I can't say practice makes perfect, it has certainly helped. Here's my latest moth! #Sciart
A felt pen drawing of a small bird dropping moth (Ponometia erastrioides, Noctuidae). The moth is coloured whitish, brownish green and greyish and sort of resembles a bird dropping if you use your imagination.

I've been doing a lot more drawing since I took part in #MothMay. Lots of moths, but I'm getting better at drawing other things too. Practice won't get me close to perfect, but it does help! Here's my latest moth.

Alongside the 1000 piece jigsaw there's prints of my final #MothMay piece, in both A4 & A3. Every reward tier is also at a special reduced price! Can you tell I really want this campaign to succeed! 😁 www.kickstarter.com/proje…. #Moths #TeamMoth #Illustration #Procreate #SciArt #ArtSky
An original digital illustration by Loadofolbobbins of a group of 23 moths of different colourful species flying and perching around a lit light bulb, surrounded by foliage. The foliage and light bulb are all drawn in black, in the top left is a section of trailing ivy which leads to two thin branches, on of which has a Kentish Glory moth clinging to it. The light bulb is hanging in the centre of the image from a woven single light cord and the edison style bulbs filament is glowing. In the bottom right corner of the image is a large leaf with an equally large female emperor moth perched on it, just above this is a series of tall grasses, one of which has a scarlet tiger moth clinging to it. There is also a small clump of grass in the bottom left corner of the image which very slightly obscure a large emerald moth beneath. The other moths include a mint moth, peppered moth, ethmia pusiela, scarce forester moth, barred hook-tip moth, ruby tiger moth, brimstone moth, mother shipton moth, blood-vein moth, cinnabar moth, schreckensteinia festaliella, large fruit tree tortix moth, elephant hawk moth, buff ermine, red underwing moth, hummingbird hawk moth, hypercallia citrinilis, chrysoclistra linnella and the herald moth. All of these are either perched facing or flying around the light bulb.

As a passionate jigsaw-er (is that a word?), I’ve always wanted to design my own. I had the idea for this image and then created the #MothMay challenge to make sure I actually did it! So here’s hoping there’s a lot of fabulous cross-over between jigsaw puzzlers and moth fans! #SciArt #BugSky

Well, ever true to my word the Kickstarter pre-launch page is now live for my 1st foray into jigsaws! So if like me you know the joy of finding that perfect missing piece then πŸ‘‡ www.kickstarter.com/projects/loa... #SciArt #ArtSky #Procreate #Illustration #WildlifeArt #Moths #Jigsaws #JigsawPuzzles

Hello friends! I've been MIA for 6 weeks, sorry! I disappeared again mid #MothMay... I fear I ran out of steam once again... and I wondered why, oh why, do I always run out of steam after I start something full of enthousiasm? #illustration #artistlife #portraits #bskyart
Yes, I'm still creating art too. Here's me working on a recent portrait of Lozen, an inspiring Native American woman, and a yummy matcha latte and a chocolate tart (aka food for the soul πŸ˜…)

This is so cool Myst. I don't know if you are aware, but there's an alternative event in May to Mermay called #MothMay and if you are still having this obsession next year it might be a fun one to participate in. :)

Anyone know the collective noun for moths? Final #MothMay group illustration! Hoping to crowdfund this into a 1000 piece jigsaw, as well as offering prints etc. To find out when I do, this is my newsletter: eepurl.com/hZtidz #MothMonday #SciArt #ArtSky #Procreate #Illustration #WildlifeArt #Moth

I've been working on some pride themed artwork this week! I plan on having these printed and fixed into some of the vintage frames I've thrifted over the past year. #MothMay #BugSky #TransPride
A heart shaped collage style print with a large moth in the center in blue, pink, white and green colors on a navy blue background. The colors represent the Trans pride flag. It's surrounded by spooky objects like a ghost, mushroom, bones, snail, crystals, and more.

Well it's certainly a joy that June's arrived with sunshine in tow. Although I shall miss all the official #MothMay adventures, they do still continue, as I've just released some pre-orders for mini prints.. www.loadofolbobbins.com/p…. #MothMonday #TeamMoth #MothsMatter #SciArt #Nature
A mock up of a mini print measuring 10 cm by 10cm or 4 inches by 4 inches. Held in my hand the print is of an original digital illustration by Loadofolbobbins of a female Emperor moth. The moth's small creamy coloured antennae lead to a dark brown fluffy body with a white stripe at the top. It's a large moth with intricately patterned wings, both sets of wings are spread out so you can see them in their full glory. At the base of each wing is a mid brown stripe that has a creamy white stripe above it, above this is an area of dark brown made up of tiny dots almost like a pointillist painting. There are a series of three wavy stripes above this that are two brown with a creamy stripe in the middle. On each wing is a peacock like eye spot in a cream area which is surrounded by the same pointillism style dotting surrounding it in various shades of brown, reds and creams. On the upper wings there is a red almost heart shaped spot towards the tip. The moth looks like it has landed on a piece of white paper full of black ink and charcoal smudges.

Couldn't resist adding one more for #MothMay, as I didn't want to finish on one I was unhappy with. Here's a tiny spangle-wing, which bores into the bark of the linden tree. Lindens are cultivated in New Zealand, but I'm sad to say these moths haven't come with them.

A very belated MOTHers Day card (also doubling as my down-to-the-wire #MothMay contribution πŸ˜…)
A square Mothers Day card. Across the top it says "Happy Mothers Day" with 'Moth' in a different color than the other letters. Below the text are three moths drawn in pen and alcohol markers. The topmost is a luna moth with its large wing tails and wing spots. To the left of its wing tails is a crimson speckled moth (small with red, white, and black splotches all over it), and to the right of the luna moth's wing tails is a pink striped oakworm moth (it has a super fuzzy orange body and its wings are big stripes of muted purple and orange with pronounced veins)

Still behind on #MothMay, especially as it's technically June here. But I did want to draw this lovely moth. The shape went all wonky and I really struggled to get the gloss on its wings. I keep reminding myself that drawing is a skill and I will improve with practice.

All the moths I made in May. Connecting with #MothMay has been great; it's lovely to see other people's moth art and it's encouraged me in my creations. These moths will be appearing at the Lincolnshire Show in June, I might make some more but I have to make some bats first πŸ¦‡
