We stand with those who exercise their right to free speech. The irony of #ABC and the #FCC trying to silence Jimmy Kimmel on the day the Constitution was signed in 1787 is not lost on us. Here’s the 1st amendment again, because obviously Brenden Carr and Almin Karamehmedobic didn’t pay attention.
Blue graphic of the 1st amendment. Congress shall make no law respecting an
establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of
speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

The Jimmy Kimmel firing, Colbert's show, what's happening at WaPo, CBS... legacy journalism is slowly but surely coming under state control. It is more important now than ever before that we support the independent journalists out there doing the work not beholden to a fascist's bidding.

This number one tip on this advisory is to set public online profiles to private when facing harassment, which bsky does not allow, and which really should’ve been a feature implemented on day 1.

The folks at the little hotel in White River Junction where I stay when I have too much going to also deal with my commute two days in a row are so sweet — they always say, “welcome home” and today the innkeeper said he saw my name on the guest list and was so excited because it had been too long. đŸ„°

A BMCR review by me of a new open access book on corruption in Ancient Rome. “
“our” should not stand as a synonym for “European” or “western” simply because it is a book in English written about ancient Rome, if we hope to open up Classics to a global antiquity and future cultural comparison.” 📕

OMFG it's way too early in the semester for students to be this sick. There's so much hacking+coughing in our overcrowded library. One student has been sneezing non-stop outside my office (maybe it's allergiesđŸ€žđŸ˜Ź). And Covid is going around (more than the summer). I'm so grossed out, even in my mask

We’ll be a part of Open House Chicago again this October and the studio will be in full glory. This was last year’s print, made in collaboration with @chiarchitecture.bsky.social. Learn a bit about Chicago’s print history!
Hand holding a print with city images made from metal type ornaments. For open house Chicago 2024.

In order to delete your account without first agreeing to these terms you have to 1) login on desktop or desktop mode on the phone. 2) Click privacy policy (and not "agree") 3) click the profile icon and scroll down & click delete account. I had to do this cycle twice before it let me fully delete

If you’re on academia dot edu, let me suggest that you strongly consider deleting your account.

I haven't logged in for several years but this was the nudge i needed, maybe you do too? Academia dot edu was both such a good idea initially ("facebook for academics"), later a place where people who found specific repositories too confusing went, then eventually a dated + dead place

Who says history doesn't rock? Teaching the history of the Philistines tomorrow, so you know that we will be doing some slinging lessons in class. Although much later, I do love this depiction of a slinger from Trajan's column. đŸȘš

Slingers on Trajan's Column. The man in front has a sling (with amunition stored in his cloak) but the one behind has a hand-thrown stone.

Again annoyed that the Charlottesville police attach mugshots to media releases about arrests. (Releases are distributed widely via email, not just to media.) Charges against those arrested haven't been proven. They're innocent until they are. But circulating mugshots is a form of punishment.

Anyone playing at home: parcel (of printing card!) turned up on the doorstep in the rain without a doorbell ring and thank goodness I noticed and the supplier has paranoid packaging habits!

Promised a DPD delivery of my new card stock this evening. This particular courier has previously not bothered with deliveries to us late in a delivery round, because we’re out of the way
 Place your bets!
