Love seeing subversive pseudo-ad art at the Palo Alto train station, like this one for Meta glasses. #DHmakes
Flyer with Meta logo at the top and slogan "let's ruin another generation of girls". Image shows a bunch of sunglasses models including "the upskirter" (if your man buys these, it's time to leave), "the handjobber" (sEMG wristband), "the perv" (record girls when they're not looking), "the incel" (by ray-ban and meta) and "the pedo" (Epstein would have loved em)

Some food for thought outside a park in Berkeley yesterday. What things can you create and share in public to make people pause and think? #DHmakes
A sign in a bush, "What do you think is possible that you didn't yesterday?"
A sign in a bush, "Notice how you are different from this time last year."
A sign in a bush, "What did you not say today?"
A sign in a bush "What moment or person today made you feel most understood? How'd it feel?"

Quick and silly projects. When we first moved back, I asked for some craft kits for Christmas to give me a low-key way back into crafting. A got me a 4-pack of crochet kits. I made the final two over the past week — one for M and one for A. The others are in my office. #DHMakes

I've been knitting a sweater of my Textile Makerspace budget from the last 7 years, and the joy of getting to the years when I had robust funding (bright red stripes) is muted by the news that the campus group that gave me most of that funding basically no longer exists. #DHmakes
A hand holding knitting needles with a maroon, red, and black striped sweater in progress. There's a 10-eyeball manuscript doodle on the wrist.

Since the new YarnLab is colocated with a book digitization setup, we're calling that whole corner the "Text* Lab" and today I learned how to use the TC2 digital loom to weave some signage. #DHmakes

New week's resolution: practice my one-page zine folding. But a few copies are out now in Berkeley! Where can you leave some? #DHmakes

Some local inspiration for how to make textile signage. Crochet chains stitched down for the cursive, appliqué for the block print. #DHmakes

TFW you feel extremely seen by a sticker and obviously need to add it to the menagerie. 🐌🧶#DHmakes

Spent last night catching up again on the embroidery of adults I see every day. Grappled with some tricky taxonomy questions: is my weightlifting trainer a class? Is back-to-school night an event if I only had a substantive conversation with one person? quinndombrowski.com/texti…. #DHmakes

Got to help test lasercutting intaglio printing plates w/a letterpress mentor earlier this week, comparing @scholarslab.bsky.social's Universal VLS 6.75 to a smaller home lasercutter's results (promising!) #DHmakes

Our colleagues from the GSE Makery are moving today, and they asked for a favor: store a working vintage sewing machine for a couple weeks. But it fit just perfectly next to the couch in the new YarnLab space and the colors match beautifully. Maybe it's found a new home. #DHmakes

Another pillar chalked, this time recreating one of our podcasting stickers, designed a few years ago by a former student worker who recently graduated. It’s a lovely homage to our student that also makes visible our work in podcasting #DHmakes

Got any good purple #DHmakes? Let's queue them up in a thread for @ryancordell.org to enjoy! 💜 I just took my first floor loom weaving off the loom, so now I've got a tangle of purple and blue while weaving in ends.

Another #DigitalHumanities Center dream realized: our 1st interactive sound installation. It's a maze of book-like sculptures that come to life w a collaged chorus of voices thinking aloud about the experience of reading and interacting with artists’ books. 🤩 #DHmakes
White tables arranged in a maze with red-and-white books fastened to the tables. A sign in a silver stand explains the exhibit just at the start of the installation

Glad to finally be starting my next knitting project: a dataviz of the budget and spending of the Textile Makerspace over 7 years. The numbers vary so much that to represent the leaner years, I calculated individual stitches, not even full rows. #DHmakes
