The Karyta once believed the spirits of the ocean punished them for leaving the depths and seeking what lay above. Whenever they ascended too high, a strange illness befell them and made them turn back. However, ... (1/2) . #art #mermay #sci-fi #DarkArt #Karyta #EB7
Digital painting of an aquatic alien, a Karyta, hovering slightly beneath the surface. They have four tentacle-like tendrils on their head spreading out in all directions. Their bodily markings glow eerily reflecting on the surface.

From the depths~ This is a pencil sketch mixed with digital painting. The alien species is called Karyta. Yes, they glow! βŠΉβ‚ŠβŸ‘β‹† Look at the replies to see the traditional version and a WIP. . #art #alien #Karyta #scifi #TraditionalArt #monster
Pencil art mixed with digital painting of an aquatic alien (species: Karyta). The alien has tendrils for hair and two long additional tendrils along their tail. Their skin has several glowing markings. Even their eyes are fully white and glow as well.

#WIP I'm trying to strengthen the light set-up of the traditional art. I might go darker with the tendrils in the background next. . #art #AlienDesign #ArtProcess #Karyta
Screenshot of Photoshop showing an aquatic alien with head tendrils and spindly fingers. The light comes from the right casting half of the alien in shadow.

Wild Karyta appears! I'm in a traditional phase apparently. They're fun to create, maybe even fun to look at. . #art #alien #Karyta #PencilArt #TraditionalArt
Pencil drawing of an aquatic alien person (species: Karyta) with tentacles for hair and long fingers. The tail is accompanied by two more thick limbs.

Shaded version πŸ‘€ #Karyta are an original species of my sci-fi world. They can emit light and produce electricity - soft impulses for communication and strong shocks to hunt and fight. Shaking hands isn't recommended. . #art #CreatureDesign #alien
Two digital illustrations of an aquatic alien, the Karyta. The first illustration shows an almost front-view of the head with the alien looking down and four tentacles spreading out from the back of their head. The second illustration shows the alien in side-view with the four head-tentacles flowing softly behind them. Both aliens have markings on their skin, in the form of natural-looking stripes, dots and rings. The markings are lighter than their bluish grey skin and emit a soft glow in some areas. Their eyes are completely white and have a soft glow too.

Usually, when I try to get back into art, I sketch random people of my #Karyta species. Why? I have no clue. Maybe because they're fun and comparatively easy to draw. I'll shade them too, mh-hm. . #art #sketch

This is how I participate in challenges: Comfortably posting something on the very first and the very last day and otherwise does nothing. Sketches of #Karyta. . #art #sketch #mermay
A sketch of an aquatic creature, with tentacles for hair, upper body only. They puff out their chest a little.
A sketch of the same aquatic creature. This time in 3/4 view. The creature seems like it is appearing out of the fold of the sketchbook.
Yet another sketch of the same creature. Now also the lower snake-like body is visible. Next to it is another, very wonky and unfinished version and the word "wonky.."

Hand-holding art 🫱🫲 Darker hand belongs to an #Arka. Lighter hand belongs to a #Karyta. Characters: Maybe #EB7 and #Leshky - I haven't talked about the latter here yet. . #art #hands #DarkArt
Grayscale drawing of a dark hand holding a slightly lighter hand in an affectionate way. The lighter hand has white markings at the wrist and at back of the hand. The latter are glowing faintly. Two fingers of the lighter hand are elongated, wriggling towards the darker hand. The darker hand has black markings along the wrist. Both hands sport long, dark claws.

This is #EB7 (e-be-seven) - a character from my world. Their peculiar name is a "translation" to make it more accessible for vocal species. EB7's true name is a series of electric impulses: 111010110111 Feel free to guess how the names are connected~ . #art #alien #DarkArt #CreatureDesign #Karyta
Drawing of an aquatic alien creature, with big white glowing eyes and snake-like tentacles for hair. They also have white markings on their skin. Some of those markings glow as well.

species existed on their planet, #Karyta and #Arka became enemies very quickly. They are opposites in many ways, but the finger-gap is one small (useless) thing they have in common. They also share the stripes - in light and dark. More art about the finger gap πŸ‘‡ (end)

The hands! First, I added a finger and then I played around with their arrangement. The fingers are slightly "paired". Hands belong to my #Arka species. . #art #alien #hand

Four drawings of the same type of hand in different poses. Noticable is the paw-like appearance and a slight gap between the second and third finger. The fingers also have long black claws.

Textual descriptions say:

You noted correctly! :) The gap is something that could hint at (very early) common ancestors, but #Karyta and #Arka mainly have it, bec I wanted them to share a few inconspicuous morphological traits - something you'd only notice on second glance. When they first discovered that another (cont.)

#Karyta use lower voltages to communicate and navigate (the latter is called electrolocation) and higher voltages to fight and hunt. 2/2

Handy and- handsome ;DD There is one more fact I forgot to mention. I need to add it, bec I love it~ The noodly fingers are equipped with electric organs and electroreceptors. Though the fingers (and the appendages close to a #Karyta's face) produce lower voltage than the "hair" and the tail. 1/2

Hand comparison 🫢 The hand to the left belongs to my #Arka species and the hand to the right to the #Karyta. Those two share the same planet, but one species is terrestrial and the other is aquatic. . #art #alien #hands #ConceptArt
A drawing of two hands. The hands are similar in anatomy and have long dark claws, however one hand has shorter fingers where the other hand sports two longer fingers and two very long, boneless appendages. Noteworthy is a small gap between the second and third finger in both hands. There are also markings on the base of the arm - dark markings on the left arm and light markings on the right arm.

Not gonna lie, this won't end well. A land dwelling #Arka meets an aquatic #Karyta. They live on the same planet, but they are very different. Both species belong to my own world. . #art #alien #DigitalArt #centaur #mermaid
A digital drawing of two creatures floating in water. One is a reptilian centaur with long wavy hair and the other is a snake-like mermaid with tentacles for hair. The centaur is turning, glimpsing the mermaid behind him with a concerned and hostile expression.

Sooo, do I share my sketchy sketches? Yes, yes I do. Also RIP fingers. To my defense, they have an additional finger joint in those two digits. Still wonky. . #art #sketch #Karyta #monster #alien
Sketch of an aquatic alien who looks rather surprised with one arm in front of their body. The fingers are bent in a funky way, my bad!

The Karyta are an aquatic species, who use bioluminescence to communicate emotions. They "talk" via mild electric impulses and fight with stronger ones ⚑ . #Karyta #alien #mermaid #traditional #art
A drawing of an aquatic alien with long tentacles instead of hair. Their upper body is rather humanoid whilst their lower body resembles a snake. At their hips they have two extra limbs, one on each side, that reach down along with their snake-tail.

One has a more "glowy" nature, while others remain "gloomy" - it depends on their personality. And "fun" fact: Karyta can electrocute you, like an eel, just more deadly. 3/3 . #Karyta

They can control this glow to a certain extent, just as a human is able to grin without a reason or hold back a laugh. Some Karyta are better at suppressing, exaggerating, and faking their feelings than others. 2/3 . #Karyta

If they come for you, you gotta swim!! This species is called Karyta - they glow *-* Karyta use their bioluminescent stripes to express emotions. The glow ranges from a gentle shimmering, to pulsing rhythms, up to very bright signals. 1/? . #art #Karyta #WorldOfKrim #alien #tentacle

Noticed this "show your improvement in X years" going around, so I'll share one too! This is a comparison between early 2021 and 2023, bec it's when I started sketching with fineliners, no erasing.. I was so proud of the circle-pose in 2021 :3 Couldn't draw a face tho. . #art #Karyta #alien
A drawing of an alien creature with a snake tail instead of legs. It is tumbling backwards while their tail lags behind creating a floaty arc. Their skin is striped with white markings that can glow in the dark.
A drawing of the same alien, but 3 years later. Their upper body is rather humanoid whilst their lower body resembles a snake. At their hips they have two extra limbs, one on each side, that reach down along with their snake tail.

Hii! I'm back~ This week was exhausting. Covid is slowly leaving my body - good bye you nasty thing. . #Karyta #art #alien #WorldOfKrim
A sketch of an aquatic alien with four thick tentacles for hair and white, wiggly markings on their body. They are raising one hand resembling an awkward wave. The last two fingers are wormy too. Next to it is a small icon looking like an alien hieroglyph.
