Why is there a gap between the fingers of the #Arka —and the #Karyta?

Thank you! Most Arka would not want to engage in such speculation, but research suggests that the gap is not a direct evolutionary advantage, but a remnant of their ancestors. It is suspected that the land dwelling Arka are descendants from the aquatic Karyta. Both species live on the 1/?

I sketched some wonky hands. They belong to the #Arka species. The 2nd and 3rd fingers are slightly wider apart than the rest. It's normal :} . #art #hands

So, this is #Leshky. His species is called #Arka and he lives on the same planet as EB7. Leshky originates from cliffs made of obsidian-like crystal, the closest realm to the treacherous oceans. When he encounters EB7, he begins to call them "Shoto" - their word for snake. . #art #DarkArt

Maybe you remember EB7, the Karyta (=mermaid-snake) character of my universe. There is yet another character that EB7 meets after reaching the surface. That character's name is #Leshky and this is a concept of him. His species is called #Arka, the counterpart to the Karyta. . #art #sketch

species existed on their planet, #Karyta and #Arka became enemies very quickly. They are opposites in many ways, but the finger-gap is one small (useless) thing they have in common. They also share the stripes - in light and dark. More art about the finger gap 👇 (end)

You noted correctly! :) The gap is something that could hint at (very early) common ancestors, but #Karyta and #Arka mainly have it, bec I wanted them to share a few inconspicuous morphological traits - something you'd only notice on second glance. When they first discovered that another (cont.)

Intermediate hand-update for my #Arka species. They had 4 digits in the past, but 5 made more sense to me as I wanted them to have a small similarity to the Karyta species. Both originate from the same planet. In addition I made their fingers shorter and more.. paw-like(?) . #art #hand #paw #sketch
